Is it OK to put Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas tank as well as the oil? I have a 52 8n. Just bought it. It seems to sputter periodically and I thought some MMO couldn't hurt???
I think I would check on the ignition system first, plugs included as well as coil, points and condenser, cap too. Then look at the fuel with a look at the sediment bowl to check for water, and know you have good, and clean, gas.
I've no idea why MMO would be a cure for anything that makes the engine sputter, but then I don't know everything. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Only possibility may be a sticky valve.
While adding it to the gas may help.. We've had better luck actually pulling the valve covers and dousing the valve stem with MMO and manually actuating them... Usually solves plain 'sticky' valves that don't have an otherwise 'hard' mechanical defect.
I'd also look to points ( and all other ignition components.. including key switch, and ballast resistor, if equipped) and fuel ( and the valves) for an occasional sputter.
