i was in the local Kubota place this afternoon, picking up some fuel filters and a guy came in with the remains of his gear box for his MMM: model RCK60-54-24B: with shipping, over $1000 for the gearbox an one other part he had...i really thought about selling him mine: i used it one or two years, an then went to a 3pt finish mower: it still looks like new: but my experience with selling stuff like this: is i regret it later...so i will probably keep it tucked away in the barn: i tried to talk him into going with a 3pt: but i don't know if i did any good or not..

Most likely the oil leaked out and running it without oil is not good.

i really don't know what caused the problem, lack of oil is probably right: it was only 7 years old, mows 3 acres, an from what i've been told, he keeps it looking as good or better than a golf course: i think it should have lasted longer than that: an i would have gone with a 3pt finish mower before i put that kind of money into a MMM: he mentioned the guage wheels were worn out too, so it needs other parts to put it back to A1 condition..

Hi all-

I actually had a similar recent experience (like this week) with my 60-inch MMM (RCK60B-22BX). The only thing I can figure is that when I hit a log (twice - don't ask) fairly solidly a couple of years ago I bent the shaft from the tranny to the deck. It ran fine (I thought) since then, but apparently the wobble got worse and started breaking stuff (but it did take 2 years to break). I never noticed it until the belt let go - shredded it btw. The belt had been nicked earlier so I had a replacement, so no problem. When I went to replace the belt, I turned the PTO shaft and noticed that the main drive pulley wobbled both up/down and fore/aft. Uh oh. Words and phrases such as bent shaft, stripped key, damaged gears and severely unevenly worn pulley (and a lot of other little stuff) are now part of my working knowledge.

I too am considering a 3-pt finish mower - not so much because of this recent event - I'm going to pay the $475 to fix it - but long term the mower deck detach/reattach is a bit of a PITA. I may keep the MMM (someday it'd be a nice package with the tractor for resale) or may sell it, but I'd like to know my options. Hence...

1-would anybody have an idea of a reasonable price for said MMM mower deck, (I've found 3 in various on-line locations ranging from 1000 to 1400). Mine is in good shape (a few paint rubs where the belt let loose, but now it'll have a rebuilt transmission and main hub and a new belt :D, and I also have a good second set of blades for it - the first set is good too)

2-What do people think of the Woods PRD 6000 3-point finish mower? My dealer has one that has aged in inventory that I could get at cost but with all the warranty coverage.

Advice & opinions sought. Thanks as always.

Dave

I have traded tractors again and have ended up with a 6' Landpride RFM that I don't need. I used it a few times on a B7800 but did most of my mowing with a BX. I traded the B7800 last year for a L3240 and used it maybe once or twice and haven't used it since because I use the BX for all of my mowing now and also bought a F2680E with a 6' deck so I won't have any future needs for it. I paid around $1800 for it and will part with it for $950. Tell your friends and neighbors. Only decided yesterday to sell it so I haven't mentioned it to anyone here (Somerset), yet.
