Tractor
FORD 861, MITSUBISHI D2500, FORD 8N, FORD 9N,
I JUST BOUGHT THIS TRACTOR AND IT RUNS FINE BUT THE TRANSMISSION IS STUCK IN LOW RANGE BECAUSE THE HIGH/LOW LEVER SEEMS TO BE DISCONNECTED INSIDE. THERE IS NO RESISTANCE TO THE LEVER AT ALL. I HAVE A POOR QUALITY DIAGRAM SHOWING THE LEVER AND SOME RELATED PARTS. THERE SEEMS TO BE A "ROD" OF SORTS THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE SHIFT LEVER AND RUNS TO THE REAR OF THE TRANSMISSION. I GUESS IT SLIDES THE H/L GEAR SET BACK AND FORTH. THIS "ROD" MAY BE DISCONNECTED OR BROKEN (I HOPE NOT) ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS A "ROD" LIKE I SUSPECT AND COULD IT BE LOOSE? I HAVEN'T REMOVED THE TOP COVER YET. I WORK 24/7 AND HAVEN'T HAD TIME.

The high/low and high/mid/low selectors move a linkage inside the transfer case(s) that slides along a horizontal shaft to engage or disengage different gear sets along main and countershafts. You are going to hate that tractor by the time you get it out of low range. Take my advice. Split it and take the tranny and transfer case to a tranny specialist. Or just sell it and chalk this up to experience about the grey market.

The same thing could happen to a Non-Grey.

What a load of crap. Hope you aren't a doctor or lawyer because your advice sucks.
BTW, he posted this question under the Mitsubishi forum also and got some quick replies that helped him to figure out what to do and as it turned out, it was an easy fix.

Amen, Kernopelli. I have a grey and a non-grey that are nearly identical except for the size of the engine. Both are very good tractors. There is an exact match for my grey also.

Just got back into town guys and checked the messages/replies/comments. Yes, my tractor is fixed. It took about 5 minutes to fix (once I got the trans. cover off, that is) and I am back to cutting 16 acres of grass every week and keeping 2.4 miles of gravel driveway graded. I am satisfied with the tractor and plan to keep it. Why not? It runs fine, very stingy on diesel, has enough power and came with a front end loader AND 4 ft bush hog.
Sure, it isn't a fire breathing 300 horsepower 4 wheel drive behemoth that will grade a road or cut grass at 50 mph, but it IS a $3500 investment bought a little over 1 month ago that will pay for itself in oh, another 6 weeks or so. The best part is I DON"T HAVE A GIANT LOAN TO PAY OFF. HA!

Has anyone been able to find a front loader attachment for one of these tractors or know what will fit
