I tired to break it loose but no luck. By the time I took it apart and really examined the clutch and clutch plate, it was clear it wasn't ever going to break loose.

In my case the clutch plate was stuck to the clutch pressure plate. The clutch plate was completely free from flywheel. You can see in one of the pictures the clutch plate is still stuck to the clutch pressure plate.

When I forced them apart, the clutch plate pretty much disintegrated on side stuck to pressure plate. It was nasty.

If somehow the clutch plate had been able to break loose, I'm positive the clutch plate would have just fallen apart.

This is a great thread. I had no idea what a clutch job entailed. Years ago I did one by myself on a 71 Chevy pickup and that is what I thought a clutch job would be like. How naive. Seeing this makes me wonder what the expected clutch life of a tractor like my L3010DT is ? Does anyone have a number ?? Mine is coming up on 1000 hrs.

This tractor is a GST and the clutch really didn't have to be used much. The clutch plate removed on this tractor didn't show much wear after almost 1500 hours.

If the tractor just had not been left out in elements so much, I'm sure this clutch would have lived to well over 7000hrs

Gordon - This job would be easier then replacing clutch in 71 Chevy PU.

Not having to work from under the vehicle is a big advantage. Being able to get relatively easy access to all portions of the bell housing makes job easier.

I am wondering if you had held the clutch open (at least, I think that's what the little lever does) it would have been okay. What I am trying to ask is about the clutch stand off lever that my B8200 (gear tranny) has- and I assume other tractors- it ratchets open, and the manual says to use it when you expect the tractor to sit for a while and don't want the clutch "freezing"?

Yes, If the clutch had been held disengaged it would have kept it from rusting together.

On the L3650 it doesn't have a mechanism to hold clutch down. I have since made something to hold clutch down when not in use.
