You should have posted this in the "How agriculture works" thread.
I saw a demonstration one time of a steam tractor pulling bottom plows. Men rode on the plow and would manually pull levers to raise the plows up at the end of the furrows. "My Grandfather told me one time steam tractors pulling farm implements is where the expression of, "Could not turn around in a forty acre field came from".This is a very amazing article about a 150 horsepower Case steam engine that a young man completely built from scratch and managed to set a world record pulling a 51 bottom plow with it !
