mini-skidder, mulching version wish list

Here are the latest developments in this thig.

We are thinking of manufaturing this skidder based mulcher vehicle this winter. It should consist in a 170hp engine, closed cab A/C, loader arms and rear tools options.

We have decided to bring bigger axles for the traction, they are on their way now. The frame is ready to be used on both ways, so the frame would stays basically the same. The orientation would be reverse though, as the bigger engine will need extra space.

We are forseeing a base price of 150 000$ to 170 000$, depending on some implements we are to use. We will begin soon the design of the new cab, which should not be that much of a trouble. We might recuperate the cab design from an other vehicle for a start, and see how it goes.

That is what's new about that project.

I have always thought that a small skidder like the Deere 440A with lift arms and a PTO on the rear would be a great machine for the Brown Tree cutter. Or maybe a Davco cutter on the front.

contact don schroeder, he took a skidder and made his own lift arms where the grapple was, and mounted a seppi head on the back, 3 marker tractors cannot keep ahead of him. don is from san antonio

that thing looks like an antique.

Hi everyone,

Here ti is, a preview of what I had in mind. It s using the same skidder frame we are manufacturing, the cab have been reversed, loader arm, bigger engine, etc.

Open to every remark, this is a draft, nothing is fixed. THis is something that just started the blueprint zone. THere are many things to be looked at. But it gives I good idea of what it may looks like.

Any new updates? I am currently using a midi excavator with a mulching head for hard to clear areas. I have been looking all over the place for a wheeled platform that I could use to run a 5-6' mulching head and retain "skidder" functions as well. Compact size, good aux. hydraulics (approx. 45 gpm and 5000psi), transport weight (approx. 12000 -16000 lb) and low ground pressure are my primary concerns for what I do. Probably 100-150 hp would be sufficient. Plenty of "big mulcher" manufacturers out there already. I'm looking for smaller.

We have been working on this lately. We will begin soon the finale stage before production of the first unit. Here is the plan about the mulching unit: having the same frame, but inverting front and rear frame, engine would then be on the rear frame, so that we could fit a 170hp. plans are that we will end up having a machine that weihts around 15 000lbs.

If what you are looking for is a skidder able to work as a mulching machine, the only concern I would have about this is visibility of the work to perform. Either side you would be working, you would en up being far away from the mulcher. If you are looking to do so anyway, it could be possible to fit in a 100hp to 130hp engine in the same package, or to use one of our powerpack, that would then become a tool added on to the skidder. I do think that this last solution would be alot too expensive.

The only other solution would be to have some skidder tools to be fitted on the mulcher carrier. Here is the latest version fo the design from our mulcher carrier3.JPG

The major downfall of my business is the my machinery is to specialized. Having a tractor that can do more than drive a mulcher would be a great asset. My thoughts are to have a tractor with 3pt linkage one end and loader arms or blade at the other end would be great along with the option of hiflow hydraulics or PTO. Seeing as you have all most a clean sheet of paper why not make your tractor bidirectional so we can have the best of all worlds? I haven't seen any other manufactures of industrial type tractors do this:licking:
