Mikim sent me an email with a design for his concrete pour for his new slide gate. I sent him back some modifications. What followed that was one of those one stone killing many bird events. Mike and Bernice got my expertise. My wife got her week out in the fifth wheel adventure, and maybe best of all, we had a small TBN get together in the hill country. mikim gate 5 materials on trailer.jpgmikim gate 1 concrete.jpgmikim gate 2 entrry left.jpgmikim gate 3 entry right.jpgmikim gate 4 entry left 2.jpg

Mike's original plan was a very simple gate that fit seamlessly in the entryway. When he realized that he couldn't purchase economically the steel equivalents to the existing wood he decided to turn me loose, with reins of course. This is what the finished gate looks like except for the ranch logo which will be plasma cut by others. I'm showing the finished project for those who hate the how to stuff and want to get back to more interesting topics.mikim gate 29 finished gate from road.jpgmikim gate 30 finished gate with expanded metal.jpgmikim gate 31 expanded metal.jpgmikim gate 32 finished gate from inside.jpg

mikim gate 10 drilling concrete.jpgmikim gate 11 setting concrete anchors.jpgmikim gate 8 mikim painting rails.jpgThe first thing that had to be fab'd up and installed was the angle iron track on the concrete across the drive. Texas Don and Mikim made it look easy. Then Mikim had to paint the rails for the gate to ride on inside the fence. We discovered that Mike hates cleaning paint brushes, won't do it.

Mike loves to work with wood and he is very good at it. When I saw the materials he had purchased and the existing entryway wood work I realized that we could maybe make the gate he had wanted in the first place. The fence he had made was all about layers, we can layer steel. And the best way to accentuate the layering is with mitered corners. So that's the direction we went.

The frame is 1 1/2" X 3" fourteen gauge tubing. Mike almost lost it when he saw me pull out the framing saw and start cutting miters in the steel tubing exactly like he would have done it with wood. We also got to use his Northern Supply 115 volt flux core mig machine for tacking up. It worked fine. But most of the gate and components were welded up with 5P+ rod using the welder on Lucy.

Here's a before/after ...the Texas flag panel is removable. As in - if I build another panel to go in there, it will take me about 3 minutes to change it out.

That Texas Flag does look good. I like your idea of the change out panels. Every time you get a new panel you need to add a photo to this thread.

Harvey, on your first post you misnamed the ranch. Nothing Mike does is half***. He is working to finish all his project so some day he can become lazy. :D

Wow!!! Mike that looks absolutely beautiful.

Don, it doesn't surprise me about the words becoming mixed up. happens all the time to me. I suspect sometimers is becoming alltimers more often than not.
