Hi,
New here. Have a Deere 4310 with 59 inch front mount snowblower. The mid PTO does not seem to easily engage. It grinds and then slowly grabs. if there is any snow or ice creating resistance, then the PTO will not engage. The guy I bought it from instructed me to engage the rear PTO and then the mid PTO. Should I be engaging both at the same time? Do I have some gear damage or a weak solenoid? Thanks for any information.

:welcome: to the forum.

What does the manual say for the 4310? I have been under the impression that the mid PTO was a direct gear engagement to the PTO, which in turn has a clutch to engage/disengage it.
If true, then the mid PTO would grind gears until they matched, given that the PTO shaft is already turning.

Here is what the tech manual for the 4310 has to say. Lets hope you are not in for some gear and spline repair here.

I have a similar tractor 4300. You must FIRST engage the mid PTO, then engage re rear PTO to turn them both on. (you cannot run the mid without the rear) Do not try to engage the mid PTO with the rear PRO already running.

X2. You have the procedure wrong and will cause damage to the mid PTO gear.
