I posted about a possible problem with my mid mower last week. It ended up being gear failure in the mid-pto, taking out 3 gears. After I working on it, I found that the rear bearing in the mid-pto housing is not the correct bearing. The mid-pto shaft is much smaller and there was a lot of slop. The service manager at the dealership I purchased the tractor from agrees that the wrong bearing was installed at the factory. I bought the tractor, a JD 4310 hydro, new. It only has 405 hours, but is out of warranty (I have had it 6 or 7 years, boy time flies), so the service manager is not sure whether John Deere will do anything to cover this. I am keeping my fingers crossed, as this is turning out to be an expensive repair.

Yet another chance for John Deere to "excell"! If JD won't take care of you maybe the dealer will. I still believe that the dealer is more important than the color of the tractor. Please let us know how it turns out :p

Well, John Deere is not willing to do anything regarding this matter. They stated the tractor is too old, despite the gear failure being a result of the wrong bearing being installed at the factory. I am disappointed in that I thought they would at least cover the parts for the repair, since it was a result of a quality control failure on their part.

Don't give up too easily. Keep "haunting" your dealer and possibly a different dealer and also contact Corporate. Become a pain that they want to "help" get rid of! Good Luck and keep us posted :p

phyxer, the problem is I REALLY need to get the repair done because I need my tractor. I think I am going to go and order the parts on Tuesday. I think once I order the parts on my own, without John Deere agreeing to help, I have lost any chance of them helping. I am not happy about it, but don't know what else to do. I spoke to someone who said they were a "supervisor". I would have been happy when them covering the parts.
