My experience has been that the Kabota mid-mount and belly mount PTO's do not have enough room to mount a PTO Pump. I think you'll be at least an inch short of fitting the pump on the mid-mount shaft.

i dont know if you could just slip it onto the output (remember the 21 spline vesrsion) but you could probibly build a small driveshaft and remote mount it underneath some how.

I think "schmism" has it right. You would need a double u-joint drive to offset it, but it can be done. It will hang down quite a bit and take up a lot of the available ground clearance. Just something to think about.

Might be better to get one with an electric clutch that mounts onto the front of the engine like an A/C compressor. Don't know if there is any more room for that or not, but it wouldn't be a ground contact worry. They are more $$, due to the clutch.

My Deere 1070 also has a mid-pto and I have been toying with the idea or running my mid-mower off of it using hydraulics when I move the mower to the front end loader frame. I need an offset mower to run under the trees and along fence lines, etc. I have an extra shaft for the mid-pto to mower. I was looking at Grainger, Surplus Hydraulics, etc. to get an idea of how much it would cost to convert over to hydraulic drive. The problem I'm trying to solve is the hard time I have hooking the mid-mower up and taking it off. I can't leave it on for most of the haying work I do, but the 72" mower is a great unit. I'm trying to figure out how much power the pump and motor out to be (currently figuring about 25-30 hp with a pressure relief valve). The mid-pto runs at about 2100 rpm at rated engine rpm. I only yet need to decide whether to run the hyd. motor to the mower's shaft driven gearbox or replace the gearbox/ drive pully with a hydraulic equivalent to be more efficient. The ratio of pump to motor displacements is a consideration here. Sure would be nice setup for sharpening the mower blades, too.

Any help or suggestions that come from the Forum will be greatly useful to both of us. There are probably some other good attachments that would make great add-ons to this system, too (like a hole digger and a mid_pto generator..)

One major problem to overcome will be the RPM of the mid-PTO. These pumps are rated for either 540 or 1000 RPM, not the 2100 RPM's or so most mid-PTO's operate at.

Since I'll most likely never purchase a MMM or snowblower, I've thought it seems like a bit of a waste having it there...unused.

But you got me thinking...maybe an air compressor or pressure washer might work. I like the mid PTO generator idea too.

I'm wondering...what's the advantage of putting a hydraulic pump there? don't you already hydraulics on the tractor?

DAP:

I mounted a Bush Hog Squealer 48" light duty rotary mower on the FEL of a Kubota L4330. It is driven by a Charr-Lynn hydraulic motor that is in turn driven by a Prince 11GPM PTO pump mounted at the rear 540 rpm PTO. The motor, pump, relief valve, check valves, and some hydraulic fittings came from Surplus Center. The rest came from either McMaster Carr or Northern Hydrualics.

I use it to clear light brush (trees up to about 2" diameter), mow ditch and pond banks, and mow close to trees and fences.

I will be at the "farm" this weekend and try to get some pictures. I will also find my calculations and share them with you, as well as the many things I learned the hard way during the project.

Cant wait to see 'em. Gotts besumpin rlse to do with that shaft!

ya i noted in another tread about mounting a pto gen to the mid pto.

id stick to a smaller 5K unit that i could run at significnatly less tractor rpm as the mid pto spins faster....

i figured id work something up to hang off the chin weight bumper on the front and a driveshaft...
