Very sorry to read of your loss, I am glad you got to spent the last minutes with him, I'm sure it comforted him knowing how much you loved him. At times they are our best friend and companion.

My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.
Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.
But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a 'doggy-door"!

Sorry to hear of Mickey's passing. Tis a big kick in the you know whats. I would rather get kicked than loose my dog....
Be very thankful Mickey went in your arms and without needing to be put down. My story about having to put down my GSD is on TBN somewhere. NOT recommended reading unless you want to shed a tear.
I still miss my Kelly. Guess I always will.

I had the very same thing happen to me with a GS/wolf hybrid 4 years ago. I can totally relate. You where there and I have little doubt it made it easier for him, still it is like loosing your best ever buddy.
I buried "Jasmine", on the edge of our creek behind the house.

I know it's small comfort right now to know how many of us have felt our version of what you are going through. We 'lost' our Cassie after 12+ years in November and not a day goes by that I don't miss her. She passed in my arms and I'm not ashamed to say that I was cryin' as I said goodbye ...
