Tractor
Massey MF50 1957, 2012 Mahindra 3016, 1981 John Deere 317, 1989 John Deere 322
Problem: The drift feature was stuck in the upright position but would move the 3 point up or down with no inbetween, and the position level lever moved but the 3 point would not move up or down.
I opened the tractor and fixed the drift portion but now I have no hydraulics, the tube that comes to the top of the tractor is in the right location but has no fluid moving though it.

Does this system require priming? or is there something else i can check before major surgery? thanks for any answers/suggestions in advance.

I am not sure of the terms you are using, drift, do you mean draft? The draft lever and position levers move inside each other, these levers could be stuck, or not moving inside each other smoothly, one is a tube, and the other is a shaft that moves inside the other. You may also have a stuck control valve, it is inside the 3-point lift pump.

PS I am assuming you are talking about a 50 farm tractor built in the early 60's and not a yellow industrial MF50

It may very well be draft it is hard to read the labeling on the levers, and yes it is a 1957 Model (Red) Massey 50.

I have checked all levers and they move smothly, there was a small rod that connected from the draft lever to top of the 3 point connection that moves in and out about 3/4 of an inch.

Is there an easy way to check the control valve? or does it require me to take it apart again and drain the case for inspection?

Also is there an easy way to check that the Hydraulic pump is still working.

Never work on any tractors before so just trying to find some info before rebuilding the pump and spending moeny that could be better spent on one of my old trucks.

Thanks.......Quent

Looks to be a rookie mistake, /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the help, I contacted Dean and here is the answer.

I think your problem is in the linkage either you have some broke bent wore out or out of adjustment linkage. you may have the liftcover linkage in back of the roller on the pump control lever that is the first place I would look. You need to remove the access plate on the right side of the rear center housing it is the plate with the Trans/Hyd dipstick in it. You can then check to see if the liftcover linkage levers are in front of the pump control valve lever roller. You can also check to see if the standpipe is in the hole in the pump where it belongs or beside the pump instead. I am attaching a couple of pictures the first one is how you make the liftcover adjustments the second picture is the things to check when you put the liftcover on.
