MF 35
I have a MF 35 with power steering unit in steering column. I have checked fluid level and level ok oil seems to look ok . Yet I have no power steering. steering feels like regular manual steering my past experience is when PS is not working steering becomes very difficult.

You are right that when it becomes difficult the power 'assist' steering is not working. Did this happen all of a sudden or has it been gradual. In either case, the problem is most likely the pump. The key could have broken on the shaft or a seal blew in the pump. Latter not as likely.

thanks bought it at a auction last year with the current problem. So remove the four bolts and pump will come free from block is the key located their or more internal?

In the illustration, 41 is the key on the shaft under 40, the gear. You will see the gear mounted on the end of the pump after you remove it from the housing. If it is the key, chances are that the nut backed off and keyway in the shaft is worn too.
With no history on this tractor, it could be the pump is shot, too. Only one way to find out and that's to remove it.
Hope for the best.
