Timing? Have you checked that?

I have not and it runs like timing is off a whole lot...won't even fire up without a spray. Of course a hung up injector affects timing as does someone installing the injection pump incorrectly. It was purchased running like it does and it doesn't look like anyone has removed the pump but I could check the timing now. Now that the injectors are out I have time to look at timing. Let me find timing procedures online and check - if you have the timing specs please let me know.

Thank you for the link. I found the page in my MF35 manual and it specifies removing the front axle first. Is it really necessary to remove the front axle before removing the timing cover? My manual says to make sure all timing marks are in alignment under the timing cover but if I have to remove the front axle first that makes a relatively easy job a whole days work!

WHY are u removing the front cover?? to check the dots?? Those dots are for assembly purposes.. it'll take over 300 revolutions of the engine to get them to line up again..{a month of Sundays, lol}
THAT would be MY last option..

10-4...was gonna remove the cover to make sure someone didn't reassemble it without lining up the dots (have seen a few cummins engines like that when people replace injection pumps. But it really doesn't look like anyone has been poking around in there so I will leave the timing cover on per your instructions.

Have you set the engine on TDC and checked that the pump is reasonable timed?

I have not done that yet but once I can get out there to do the compression test I will also check timing. To be honest I went into the project with a "repair something worn" mindset because I am thinking it was working well at some point and now something is not working well. My thoughts are less pointed toward thinking someone changed the pump timing by doing a repair incorrectly. I have absolutely nothing to back these feelings LOL but yes I need to check timing as well as do compression check.

BE SURE & pull the engine stop before u start the compr. test or you'll get wet from the fuel coming out of the injector lines.

Finally got to compression test.

Cylinder 1: 210-220 psi
Cylinder 2: 220-230 psi
Cylinder 3: 20-50 psi

Unless its just a leaking headgasket (yeah right) I'll be tearing down. Hoping an in-frame is possible? Liners, pistons, rings, and bearings replaced through the pan? Is it possible to rotate in some fresh mains without removing the engine?

HOLY Smokes.. those reading SHOULD BE OVER 300 psi.. more in the 400 range.
IDK for a fact.. but those older machine were made to be repaired "in-place".. & keep on going..
It wouldn't surprise me 1 bit if EVERTHING was accessible..
