MF 1533 RPM problem

Maybe someone can help me. I have a MF 1533 diesel tractor. Today I did my walkaround checked the oil and cranked it up. Drove over to the rock pile and scooped a bucket full and headed up the drive to spread it. About one hundred feet from where I started the rpm started to die off with the throttle full on. I clutched it and the rpm was at 1000 with the throttle full on. The rpm would try to make it to 2000 and then die off to 1000 again.

Backed it up and checked the fuel filter, no water in the bowl. I pulled the filter out and replaced the bowl, cranked it up and the same thing. Pulled the air filter, no change.

Two days ago I was bush hogging tractor ran fine.

Sounds like a fuel delivery issue.

But did you make any changes to the medicine recently?

No I haven't changed anything lately

First thing I'd check is the throttle linkage & cable. And then, make sure the fuel shutoff solenoid is getting full travel.
It's a place to start, at least. Look to the simple stuff first.
Please let us know what you find... It's always useful to hear what was causing a problem. One more load in the troubleshooting arsenal to file away for future use.

Make sure the fuel tank outlet strainer is clear of crud.

P.S. If the above suggestions don't find the problem, check for anything that can restrict fuel flow. Kinked line or hose etc. An exhaust obstruction will cause the same kind of problem as restricted fuel flow.

After a lot of trouble shooting and talking to others I decided the engine was starving for fuel.

I removed the fuel filter element and ran the tractor with the same results, I couldn't keep the rpm above 1000.

I removed the fuel filter bowl and set a funnel and fuel can below and began to drain the fuel from the tank. The fuel was barely dribbling out. Something was restricting the flow. This line is gravity fed to the fuel filter.

Today I looked in the tank with a flash light where the line feeds the fuel filter. There was something blue sitting right in the dimple where the line connects.

I used a 4 prong claw retrieving tool and found it to be a piece of residue from the molding process of the NEW blue fuel can that I used a few days before this problem started. The piece was cone shaped and sat right in the depression of the feed line and the suction of the pump held it in place.

After removing the piece I replaced the fuel filter and now she runs like a champ.
