MF 1533 Final drive seal

My front passenger side seal is leaking. I have it almost apart, but me being a newbie, am a little concerned. I am up to the final step where you separate final case into final case a and b. I cannot get them apart. Is there a special tool or just keep pounding on it? Thank you for any help.
