My father has a MF 135 with the gas engine. I told him I would put the issue on here to see if anyone has any ideas. Earliner in the year the water pump stopped working and the engine over heated. Stated he replaced the pump in addition to the head gasket. Engine was running fine, but now it stalls every time the PTO is engaged. It does this with no implement attached. Adjusting the choke doesn't stop it from stalling either with the PTO engaged. Any ideas on why this is happening and what could have caused it?

Sounds as if something may be jamming the PTO. can you open the transmission and look inside?

When you engage the pto and slowly let the clutch out a bit does it sound like the tractor motor starts working.I understand that when you let it out completely it stalls, but just wondering if it stalls as soon as you put the pto on with the clutch held in.Does it still stall then. Larry

The PTO can be spun when not engage. When the tractor is running, it doesn't stall out if the PTO lever is engaged. It only happens when the PTO lever is engaged and the you let the clutch out. It doesn't sound as if it's bogging down and struggling in any way. I suspect when the tractor overheated this summer, there is more damage than originally thought.

Here's a quick thing you can try to make sure its not soemthing to do with the clutch and drive line. With the tractor turned off engage the pto and leave it engaged, clutch pedal out and try turning it over with the starter have someone watch the pto shaft to see if it turns while your turning it over by the switch[starter] if the shaft turns then you have some other problem other then driveline problems. At least you'll know where to start looking.Let me know what you find out with doing the above test and I'll give you some other stuff to try.Have to start from somewhere.Larry:thumbsup:

Does this tractor have any power, will it pull an implement or drive up a hill ??? Maybe time for a compression test, is the engine a Z134 ??, if so the overheating could well have cracked the block or head

went back to my fathers farm today and he had the 135 tucked away for winter. Said he couldn't keep it running long enough to drive it in the barn. Sounds as though there might be damage to the block. He's pretty bussy right now with cider season. Said he will put the 135 in the heated garage to work on this winter between pressing cider and when the spring planting starts.
