I'm a new(used) tractor owner and am glad I found this site. I need some help. I purchased a MF 1240 tractor with a 1246 loader and I've found a MF 1217 backhoe attachment with a subframe for it in Connecticut. I live in Georgia and I plan on picking it up with my F150 which is a stepside. I asked the owner for general dementions and weight so I'll know if it'll fit but my requests have been unanswered and I've had no luck researching it. Can anyone help me?

It should fit, you may have to take the subframe off to have it fit nice. Long way for a backhoe isn't it? I'm sure they have a way to load it in the back right?

Thanks for answering. Yes, it is a very long way but it's the only one with a subframe I could find and shipping was almost equal to the cost. It looks like about a 15 hour drive and I've never been up that way so it should be interesting. Thanks again.

Had the 1217 been mounted on a 1240 or was it on a 1250 or 1260?

I was told that it came off a 1260. I was also told that the subframe for the 1240, 1250 and 1260 were the same. To be honest, I've never seen one except in pictures. They also told me that they would give me everything I need to install it on mine. Any idea of what kind of weight I'm looking at?
Thanks.

It will be tonight before I can be for sure but if my memory is correct the 1240 used a different sub-frame. I will double check the books tonight and let you know. I will get the weight and the dimensions also if you still need them.

Pretty sure the 1240,50 & 60 were the same frame.

Thanks Jerry G. The dementions and weight would be great if you can find them.

Must be a heck of a deal to run that far.

When I first started trying to swap a 1217 around I thought that the 1240, 1250 and the 1260 all used the same sub-frame. When you look at the parts books it first looks like that but then you notice that there are two frame assemblies that are listed for the 1240/1260 tractors with different frame kit numbers. There is a misprint there. If you look at the order codes and shipping bundles you can see what has happened. There are two lengths of frames. The short frame bundle 1017 039 and bundle 1017 036 fits the 1240. The standard frame bundle 1017 035 and 1017 036 fits 1250/1260 tractors. The dealer order code for the 1240 is 5269 723-2 and the order code for the 1250/1260 is 5269 720-8. There was a MF1240 with a 1217 setup on it and we tried to put it on a MF1250. That is how we discovered that the sub-frames were different.
The backhoe without a bucket weights in at 803 pounds. The width of the stabilizers when they are up in transport mode is 6' 3". With the boom locked, it is about 5'3" - 5'6" tall from the bottom of the frame to the top. I don't have the length hoe with the sub-frame. I could measure one that would be pretty close tomorrow if that would help.
I hope this helps some.
I might add that there can't be much difference between the lengths of the frames. The way the front of the frame bolts on, it would be very easy to lengthen it.

Thanks JerryG. I appreciate the help. It makes me feel a lot better knowing what I dealing with. The frame length and numbers was great info too. I'm quite sure I would have been very confused when it didn't fit properly. The 1250 it came off of had a blown engine. I hope the frame is still there so I can see how it mounts. I may be asking for more help later but I hope to be able to write back and let you know that it wasn't that bad. I also appreciate the reassurance that modifying the subframe to make it fit shouldn't be that difficult. Thanks again and Happy Easter!

Thank! I'll give them a call tomorrow. I'd rather not modify anything I don't have to.

Tweld, just some quick feed back. I called Bobby, nice guy, the interchange program was for parts and not attachments. He thought that it should probably fit but referred me to a local MF dealer. The dealer reaffirmed what JerryG said, the 1260 and the 1240 frames were the same but not the 1250. They didn't even have it listed. The nice thing was that I can still get a 1240 subframe if I really need one! I hope the modifications are only minor. Thanks for the help and it's nice to have the salvage yards number should I need something.

I'm back from Connecticut with my 1217. Other than having to add 6 hours to the trip due to traffic through DC, NYC, & the Jersey turnpike, it wasn't a bad trip. It was a good fit in the back of my truck, even got the tailgate up. I plan on hooking it up this weekend. Just wanted to say thanks for all the help!

What do you guys think of putting a Mazzotti MAF 200 on my MF 1240? MF Manual states the 3pt hitch is Type 1 capable of lifting 1940 lbs. The Backhoe weighs in at 957 lbs without the bucket and has 2400 lbs. of digging force. Any thoughts on whether this unit is oversized for my MF 1240? Thanks! -Chuck
