I have a backhoe that had all the hoses are metric. I would like to add about 2' of hose between the BH and the pto pump. I've managed to find a place that has metric to NTP fittings. But this will take 4 or 5 fittings per hose? Is there a pressure drop per fitting or shouldn't this be a problem?
Oh and if anybody knows of a place I can get a large selection of metric hydraulic fittings and hoses on the web let me know.

You don't want to and don't need to add that many fittings to get where you want to go. Why not just have your local hose shop make a 2' hose that will go from your pto pump to the existing hose?

As far as buying hose and fittings on the web goes, unless you want to use all field attachables (reusables) or you have a hose crimper in your garage, you're out of luck. I have over $50,000 in hose 3 machines, so I can tell you that they ain't cheap.

Thats what I tried and so far I'm two for two. Neither shop had metric fittings.
But at least now I know what I need. I have M22x1.5 and M18x1.5. I was given the name a another place that "SHOULD" be able to help. But I'm going to call first and make sure they carry metric fittings. With all the foreign manufactures in the US today you'd think more shops would carry metric fittings.

Actually, those #'s they gave you don't mean much. You see, there is metric heavy, metric light, and metric light-light. For instance, your M22x1.5 could be a 15mm tube size on a -8 hose (metric light), or a 14mm tube size on a -6 hose (metric heavy). I would think that if this is coming off of a pump, that this would be a metric heavy. Higher flow/pressure is usually metric heavy, after valves and to a component could be light or heavy, and returns are usually light or light-light. No, I don't stutter.

Try here- Distributor Locator
Find a local distributor. Distributors deal directly with the factory and tend to have the lessor common products.

Is this a Jinma product? If so, you are so S.O.L.

Hmm lets see we're talking about high pressure hydraulic hoses, I'm going to guess.. Metric heavy. It sound's like you're telling me that nobody in the US carries metric fittings. Considering the number of foreign products in the US today I have a hard time believing that this is the case.
Oh and the hoses are labeled 1/2" and 3/8"

Also if it was a Jinma (which it's not) why would this be such a big deal. Did Jinma start making their own "special" hydraulic fittings?

Hello Wedge,

Well, only some shops carry metric. Most places that sell hoses don't sell hoses as their main line of income. So, they usually carry a limited selection of hose and fittings. If you locate a distributor, they tend to have a much larger selection than a tractor shop or auto store. Just to give you a for instance, there are at least 8 other places to get a hose in this county. My hose and fitting stock is more than all of theirs combined. If you want the normal stuff, all the other auto stores and tractor shops have it. Anyone that wants anything that's not common knows they have to come to me. I actually stock more metric fittings than anyone else around here stocks JIC or pipe thread.

Jinma can be a different animal. Go over to the Jinma section and read back thru some of the older hose and fitting threads and you will see what I mean. They have a metric flat face o-ring fitting that I can't even get. So, Jinma may actually make their own fitting. John Deere has JD only stuff, as does Cat and Komatsu. Caterpillar actually has their own hose and fitting plant which was recently taken out by a tornado.

Look, I'm not trying to give you a hard time, I'm actually trying to help you find what you need. Find a distributor, show them the fittings, and you're done. Andy.

I do understand you're trying to help. I happen to have the metric flat face with and o-ring type fitting. I'm calling a place in Indy tomorrow that their sole business is hydraulic hoses and fittings. In a pinch I can make due with what I have, but I'm trying to extend the hoses to make it easier to hook up to the tractor. If it gets to be too big a PIA then at some point in the winter I'll convert the whole thing over to metric, with all new cylinders, hoses and valves.

I guess I should mosey on over the Jinma area and see if somebody figured out how to solve this there.

Wedge,
Have you tried your local Parker-Hannifin dealer/distibutor? I've had good luck finding metric fittings there. Their website is here.

I was referred to J&F distributing by the shop I visited Saturday. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if they can help.
Thanks for the info. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Those dimensions you gave are just the outside thread dimension and the thread pitch. As mentioned, they apply to a bunch of different type fitings.

The metric O Ring Face Seal or ORFS, at least for the Jinma's, has been a tough nut to crack domestically. In a few cases, some have welded together their own custom adapter fittings to get from the chinese hose fitting to a domestic cylinder/valve fitting, or vis versa. The right type metric adapter might also be able to be machined to accept the "O" ring, but you are pretty much on your own in both regards.

Good Luck.
