Black iron would be safer if using a plasma, I would think. Do a test with a short plastic pipe to determine the best width of the cutout.

At the time I did one out of black iron, I did not have a plasma and just used a mill, doing a few feet at a time. You can make the pipe a little long and use cable or chain with a hook or clevis to hold it on or some weld on mounting tabs. I easily burn through black iron when welding so i just used a cable. I believe I used either 1 1/2 or 2" pipe. I no longer have that setup - I sold the plow with the tractor.

Yeah, there are some dangers with the fumes when cutting galvanized metal. Something like poison smoke as I recall.

True but just using a fan to blow the zinc smoke away solves the problem. More an issue with welding than cutting galvanized.

Black pipe could easily be cut (slit) on a table saw using an abrasive blade and the rip fence as your guide.
I have slit short lengths of pipe more than a few times for various projects in that manner.

LOL, just make sure that there is no saw dust remaining in the saw. (kind of gets quite smokey in the shop as hot sparks ignite and saw dust, BTDT)

I found the easiest was with my circular saw. i made two cuts up the pipe and it was wide enough to fit the edge. On the other plow I did the same but only one cut. Then used a splitting wedge and sledge to open it up some. and then once I got it started on the blade. I hammered it on. (non welded) (tight fit this way).

Good idea to use the hammer to wedge open the slot and insure a tight fit at the same time. Unless you back drag you probably don't even need a tack weld to hold it in place.

Home made landscape rake/ Stone rake for Front end loader of my Kubota B6000 just finished tonite. All I need now is a few bolts to keep her in place and a few days of dry weather in Ireland!! Not looking for much hey!

I don't know if you have rednecks in Ireland but that rake is a great example of a functional if not exactly pretty redneck implement. I'm guessing you didn't have to spend much at the metal vendor either. Nice job.
