What's up with the member status ratings i.e. "Gold Member", "Silver Member" etc.?

This info is under Forum News & Info (top of sections). Look (or run a search) for "New User Titles" and it gives the various number of posts and criteria for titles. As soon as you register, you start earning points. They add up pretty quickly.
