Mechron starting problem

I have a Mechron that has an intermittent starting problem. As you turn the key, lights come on, then you hear the solenoid click. So far normal. Then turning the key to the start position, nothing happens. No noise, no dimming of lights, i.e. no contact somewhere in the system. The engine will not start unless the gear is in natural. Moving the gear handle about seems to "sometimes" correct the problem. There must be a micro-switch/switch somewhere that is making contact or not. I can't seem to find it. I think it in the shift system that closes when in neutral allowing the starter to work. Any suggestions?? sam

Several owners had similar symptoms with their tractors. Some causes in hydrostats and gear models were different. In both types, the key switch and the start relay were possible causes but that doesn't sound like your problem. In the gear models, the clutch safety switch was sometimes the culprit. In the hydrostats, there is a potentiometer (that signals shifter position) that sometimes failed. Maybe someone that has a mechron or a manual can help.

Two recurring problems I have with my Kioti electrics, 1. Batt terminal glazing/high resistance connection (but these usually made a clicking noise). I replaced terminal lugs and eventually bought a bigger battery, no longer an issue for me but I've seen others with ground strap problem, similar results as mine. 2. Key switch (on mine, same symptoms as you) but so far, just spraying back of switch with electric cleaning solvent on to the wire connections and wiping with clean, lint free cloth has always worked for me, so far. i have this issue with one of my mules where i have to jiggle the levver to get it to engage starter. The mechron has been fine however,, i would look to a adjustment issue with the lever .
