I have discovered that the roller chain tensioner on this implement has completely worn through on one side and into the 1/2 grade 8 bolt that holds the tensioner in place. Anyone know where I might purchase a new one or if there is a newer design that will work better?

You can do a search for an idler sprocket with bearing. Make sure what chain you have so the sprocket fits the chain.
Your local parts store may even have them as they are pretty common on farm equipment.

You might find that to fabricate one would be the best. Those machines were very basic and there are other machines that you might find that you could modify a little to get the results you need. It is probably 30 years since they were in business! Don't even consider looking for the bevel gears in the drive system!
