Max 28

I have driven both and I can see the value of the HST with a lot of Loader work. Thanks to all for the great feedback!

I have had my Max 28 with shuttle shift for about 6 months now. I have been very pleased. After about a week of use, changing gears becomes second nature.

After using the Max 28, HST, for a couple of months I find the Yanmar "Shift on the Go" would have been a great feature for this tractor, also I do wish it had a little lower gearing.

Note that the Yanmar 424, a nice tractor, has no differential lock I'm told. It also uses rather thin / flexible plastic fenders.

I got to ask, in your case, why the Max28 Vs. the Yanmar 424? http://www.yanmartractor.com/content/resources/specsheets/SA424_SpecSheet.pdf

They could be near twins.

That is the exact tractor that got me thinking on switching to a little larger tractor.
Lifting capacity on the 424 is 1100 lbs and I wanted a tractor that could lift a little more.
Started looking at lift capacity, found the Mahindra picked up the most for the size, 1400 lbs. I have a lot of rock projects coming up and wanted a tractor that could move larger rocks without feeling tippy.
So I drove a Max28 and liked the feel, it felt heavier, the hydraulics felt solid but no shift on the fly; I thought at the time it would not be a problem but I do,wish I had it now.

I have lifted a rock in a size the smaller SC2450 would have not picked up and the Max handled it without a problem.

If the new Yanmars could come up in lifting power I would seriously look at them for another replacement.

I think Yanmar was unique in offering the synchro range shifter, and maybe still is. At the time I first heard of it, I thought it was a solution looking for a problem to solve. But, it sounds like you used it a lot and it was a good thing.

As I picked up the our Max28 shuttle just before Christmas, I have less than 1 hour on it, maybe 3 hours total on the machine.

Other than taking a wack at a snow pile I have no idea how well the loader works. It did not seem that strong.
As I have an PC77UU2 excavator and the Kubota L39, I use those for the work that my wife allows.
For instance logging and building a logging road, cleaning out the woods behind the hen house, and turning the manure mountain.
She throws rocks at me if I try to bring the bigger machines near the house, garden or yard. Something about this is no longer a construction site?

Like your Yanmar, my old, little, but trusty Kubota B7200 does not have power steering and in general is not up to running the implements I've purchased, the Max will still struggle, but the Max28 should make an excellent hobby farm, maintenance tractor.

It seems that Mahindra is pretty much alone in it's lifting ability compared to most of the other brands. They seem to be stronger than about all of the competition when it comes to FEL and 3PT lift capacity.

I can't remember seeing any brand that can match or exceed Mahindra in side by side tests of equally sized machines. Maybe there is, but when I was buying, I never saw one.

It's one of the reasons I got mine.

Re: Max 28, Some dumb lazy man questions on Max 28 Servicing.

If anyone is looking for a Max 28 shuttle and is close to Mineral Wells WV check out Tractor Pros | Tractor Supply Company. I was there today and they have 5 setting on the lot.

That is great information.
My sugggestion is not to sit on fence, and oif you can pick one up for less than $15K with the loader, move on these.

If anyone is interested, the Mahindra Max 28 Manual can be downloaded direct from

I have all of 3.6 hours on my Max 28.
Yesterday, I puttered about our ice rink of a farm for about 45 minutes to charge the battery.

It was getting late and light dim and my eyes are not what they once were.

1.)Could someone tell me/ Post photos of where you check the engine oil level?
2.)Also what is the easy way to remove the engine side panels?
3.)Filter intechage info.

The Max seems light, at least prior to the future addition to adding my weight box. Ther is no traction without chains. I may load the tires also.
I doubt the Max 28 weighs more than my heavily ballasted Kubota B7200 which is smaller. The Max is about +3 feet longer and 5" wider and will need more weight for working New Hampshire ground.

The Max has lots of power and easy to shift. I like having the 8F/8R.
Love having power that steeering.
The bucket is sure tiny, I may hang weights off the front bracket so the front has more weight back-dragging.
As the Loader does not have a 4 bar link, the dump angle is limited.
I was considering a toothbar like the BXpanded Piranha Tooth Bar, But I'm wondering how much it would catch material when dumping?

I have to come up with a better way of fueling the Max28, as too much spillage with a 5 gallon can.

Its going to be a wait I guess before I get the plow off the Kubota L39 and get the garden plot ready with the Max28

I started the PC 75 excavator and crawled it out of the snow bank to resinstall a newly reupholstered seat.

(If anyone is in Central NH is looking for a good upholstery shop, I recommend Westside Upholstery in Tilton)

Sick of Winter.

Re: Max 28, Some dumb lazy man questions on Max 28 Servicing.

I found this on Amazon
Amazon.com : TERAPUMP TRFA01 4 AA Battery Powered Fuel Transfer Pump w/ Flexible Intake hose and No-spill Auto-Stop Nozzle attachable to gas cans and more : Grocery & Gourmet Food
It is a battery operated pump that fits a 5 gallon fuel can. It fills it pretty quick and has an auto shut off so very little fuel spill.

I think you'd need to change the 4AA batteries 2-3 times during each tank transfer.

Re: Max 28, Some dumb lazy man questions on Max 28 Servicing.

I've run about 20 gallons through it so far and have not changed the batteries yet.

For cheap money, Ni-cads and a recharger from Harbor freight.
