Is it normal for the engine to be killed by leaving the seat if in neutral, e brake on, all pto levers off? Also seems a bit sticky trying to find neutral with the hst fwd/rev making starting a bit tricky at times. Figuring the latter is due to being new/spring tension or might need adjustment of the neutral switch below deck? Any help appreciated, otherwise love it.:)

How would you run say an PTO generator? I say not normal.

My Max 22 runs just fine with the E brake on while offf the seat. Sounds like a switch problem.

My 2516 also runs while off the seat.

Congratulations on your new tractor purchase. Manufactures have started installing safety switches that cannot be isolated or by-passed easily. Too many civil liability suits filed over injuries. I personally like the seat safety switches. Have you tried switching the hydro lever to neutral before rising from the seat? Are you switching the hydro lever to N, applying parking brake and have PTO switches off? I know rather involved when starting, if trying to find neutral moving the foot pedals that can be tricky, or are you using the range selection lever? If using the range selection lever the neutral start safety switch is probably in need of adjustment.

How does one even use a PHD anymore?

I personally have always demanded someone be setting in the tractor seat when using a PTO driven Post Hole Digger. I don't think I have ever seen one person trying to use a PTO driven Post Hole Digger by standing behind the tractor with the PHD in operation digging holes. I also think if I ever do I will be leaving the area very quickly.

Dealer mechanic was out today. Said the adjustment on the hst pedal needed adjustment. Should resolve both issues as the tractor was never fully detecting that it was in neutral.

My Max 28 runs fine with or without me in the seat.

I'm not sure what it is supposed to do. But my Max28XL never shuts off, unless I turn off the key. PTO running or whatever... stays running.

Edit -- had trouble restarting right at end of day today, rocked fwd/rvrs and that seemed to help. I'll have to watch for that in the future perhaps. I may end up with the same issue.

Well i thought the repair was made, but it turns out the mechanic left unable to resolve the problem. He is planning on returning tomorrow....

Well the dealer mechanic couldn't solve so they took it back to fix.......disappointing, like taking candy from a kid, but worse:thumbdown:

I went to the dealer yesterday and said i was disappointed about the switch situation. They gladly exchanged my tractor for a different one on the show room. I picked the one with the backhoe on it and ended up spending more money. A win win! :)

Mike, make sure you check that all PTO levers are all the way off. I had the same problem and one was just a tiny bit forward. Ten minutes of hassling before I picked up on it.

Thanks John. Lots of little things can sneak up on us.

Added coolant today, as I was inspecting the machine, cause it was below the add level. Only 20 hours. I must have not noticed it was low before.

After having switched to a different tractor, the dealer did tell me that the problem on the other was both the hst neutral pedal switch and the rear pto lever switch.

Somehow I missed this little change last time! Congrats!!!

And thanks for the followup report. I'll have to keep an eye on mine.

One thing I think I figured out is that my young son is too light in the seat to start the tractor. I always walk right next to it while he drives it. I have my hand on it, and am ready to hit the brake, joystick, steering wheel... Just want him to learn and be safe. In a few years, we'll see where we're at.

For whatever reason, my tractor does not shut off anything when I'm out of the seat. I found that helpful when transplanting some junipers this week. Standing next to the machine, I was able to press the forward and reverse peddles and move the joystick to position the plants just as I wanted. Something tells me, though, that it shouldn't work like that.

How does what I described compare to your new unit? Does yours turn anything off when u r out of the seat???

My new one behaves just as yours does. No issues :)

Mine is also the same way. But to be honest I have only ever moved it a few inches and never very fast. I am not sure if the peddle has a limit switch that once it gets to a certain position that it shuts off though.
