Hi Everyone,

Been lurking here for a long time, lots of good info here.
I have an RTV900 with mattracks. This is a little awkward because I don't want to slam them, but I am having a problem with the tracks that the factory doesn't seem to be able to fix and was wondering if anyone here has run across it and found a solution.
The large nuts (under the aluminum cap) that hold the bearings on the main shaft keep coming loose. When this happens it wrecks the bearing and dislodges the track. Very inconvenient and expensive to fix. As shipped 3 of 4 tracks had this problem within 70 hours. Factory sent jam nuts to go over the main nuts as a fix and this failed (came loose and broke the bearings) within 20 more hours of operation. There is no provision on the shaft for a cotter pin.
Oh yeah all assembly was done with a torque wrench so they are tight to spec.
Love the RTV but have a love hate relationship with the tracks.

Thanks!

If there is room for a jam nut there must be room to drill for a cotter pin. I just priced a set for my RTV 900 but because of the 7k figure I decide against them. Glad that I did now. I don't need more problems.

Please post a picture of the tracks you have. Are you sure they are Mattracks and not some cheap copy. I have sold many sets of Mattracks and have NEVER had this happen to any tracks Ive sold. I also talked to the factory and this is news to them. I am currently getting ready to put a set on M3 Mattracks on a 1100. I used a 900 to groom snowmobile trails with all last year and the tracks were flawless. Here is a pic of me and the kids using the RTV to bring us back up the hill

Who quoted you that price and what model did you get quoted for?

Hi Culater,

They are the real deal.Told you I'm not slamming but looking for help. Can't get help unless I say whats going on. Dealt with the factory on some other issues which were SOLVED and no need to look for help elsewhere. Tried the factory for this issue and it didn't work out, so I'm turning to the community here. I'm glad you haven't had any trouble with the ones you have sold, that gives me hope for mine. I WANT THEM TO WORK. Jeremy has been very helpful but hasn't come up with a solution for me, but he's real good at getting me replacement parts when they break.
Mattracks HAS heard of this, at least twice or three times from me, the last time on Friday.
If you want to become involved on my behalf I'm sure you have more pull over there than me.

Thanks

How tough is that 277 or 2760 loctite?
Want to put this to bed, but not really looking forward to drilling four 1-1/8" shafts for a cotter. I'd have to break it down and take it to a machine shop for that job.

Thanks

The quote was right from Mattrack. I am not sure what model but the were 13" wide with 1 3/4" cleats. There was another set 11" wide for $5500. I think they may have been called Litefoot.

That is what the M3 tracks 1 3/4"x13" lug are going for. I sold a set of M3 tracks to a club in Vermont they had the older style XT's and could not get over the difference of the wider M3 tracks They used them in over 3' of powder and went through it with no problem. If you ever want to talk to them I could get you their number

I would rather talk to you. Are you a dealer and if so where are you located? I have no dealers anywhere near me.

Well, I've got a little egg on my face over this. Had a chance to fix up the tracks today, and the nuts didn't come off the spindle again. The wheels drove off the track for some reason. I was sidehilling pretty good when it happened, first time it threw a track for no apparent reason, hopefully the last.
Some good came of this though, I rediscovered how much fun the RTV is with tires on it:D
Think my plan is to go for some larger tires for June-December, and tracks January-May to deal with the snow & mud when I really need them to get around.
Finally got around to dumping some dirt around the rocks on the main trail to help with ground clearance. I was surprised how little dirt it took to make the trail passable with the stock tires.

The good news is that next year Kubota will have their own tracks. My dealer showed me a photo of them. I know that I can not afford the Mattracks but maybe I can the Bota's. Time will tell.
