Massey Ferguson 1740M Hydro: LOSS OF POWER when hot!

seeing as how the tractor that this topic applies to uses a turbo, as well as def, prob better to start a new topic as NOTHING in thread would apply to you.
for the record (been there on a GC1710) look at your fuel system pressures. a collapsing hose causes a crapload of issues.
No tractor in this discussion has DEF.

you are correct. I made an error.

still, does not change the fact a person with a GC series tractor should start a separate thread.

Absolutely agree on that.

Today is my first day looking at this forum. I have a 2019 1735M cab tractor belly mower with the same problem exactly. returned it to local Massey dealer two years ago, but still having the same problem.

Has anyone considered pulling the turbo off and pulling it apart to check it's condition and perhaps rebuilding it. I don't know how involved or difficult this would be but I'm considering doing it.

  • [Surely] no one is going to tackle turbo disassembly not knowing what the cause of these (many) cases turns out to be
  • With so many sets of near identical symptoms SOMEBODY is going to solve this to benefit us all
  • I cannot believe all the various dealers involved are going to get away with failing to solve the problem much longer
  • most of us would be nuts to start disassembly of a turbo. Very expensive new or even rebuilt by the mfr. Chinese rebuilds are hundreds of dollars too, wildly variable, and similar to a crap shoot.
  • sure glad I'm not one trying to make a living on one of these machines...

Well, the one guy I have read that solved this problem after his dealer went through everything else including new injectors etc. etc. and multiple trips to that dealer. Finally MF sent him a new Turbo charger and it appears it resolved the issue. He was on MyTractorForum I linked his thread earlier in this thread.

I don't make a living with the tractor and I have other tractors. I also don't have a lot of time to be messing with a dealer who wants to try everything under the sun and still not fix the issue. I don't live near a dealer either but I think I can manage bolting on a new turbo charger. It is about $2k for a new turbo charger. I haven't decided if I'm going to take on that task but I just might pull it off and take it apart just to see what it looks like.

Since turbos spin at extremely high RPM it requires really good bearings and good lube oil flow, has anybody check turbo drain line to see if there is adequate oil flow to bearing and out drain?

Hey there first time posting got this problem also. When this happens on my 2019 1735M hydro it gets to a point where it will stall right out and stop the engine - even sitting still and no pto etc. Seems like the fuel is getting cut so I'm going to try replacing the SCV valve in the fuel pump and see if that helps, and I'll report back hopefully this weekend. I replaced the lift pump and that did nothing.

Update - unfortunately the scv valve did not help. This is very frustrating
