Tractor
massey 1030
Massey 1030 was VERY hard to start. There was reddish/brown deposits in the filter and fuel tank. Replaced filter, hoses and drained/cleaned the tank. Removed injectors and hardlines and cleaned them out. Now; the tractor refused to start. Cranks over fine, but zero fire. Won't even try to fire. I have bled the lines. It was very hard to get all the bubbles/air out.
ANY help would be appreciated.
thank you.
I am a good mechanic; but, i know very little about diesel engines.

still have to get the air out of ALL the lines and the rest of the way to the injectors. Injectors could be clogged.

That pump isn't pumping enough fuel to start anything..
Loosen the fuel inlet screw & let the fuel flow into a bucket to check for decent flow & not a trickle.
Does it have a lift pump on it or is it gravity fed?? Do u have the throttle wide open?? IF NOT, move it to wide open.
Does it shut off w/ the key switch or a pull cable or throttle..?? MAKE SURE its in the RUN position..

It "looks" as tho the pump control rack is in the shut-off position?? by the amount of fuel its pumping.
Is there an access cover plate directly BELOW the inj. pump??
IF SO, remove it & that'll give u a birds eye view of the pump control rack movement.

awesome, thanks for the help guys
yes, it is gravity fed. I bled the fuel inlet screw, by just loosening the bleed screw. Gravity forced all the air out. It has good flow to the inlet.
throttle is wide open
it has a manual shut off. The cable was froze-up. I disassembled the cable and oiled it very good, works smoothly now.
I will check the pump control rack movement.
I moved the throttle from idle to full and there is NO difference in the amount of fuel "squirted" by the pump.
I closed the fuel shut-off and it killed the fuel squirted by the pump.
I will check the fuel flow next.
I really appreciate your help guys.
I was thinking that there should be more fuel coming outta the pump to the injectors, but im not really experienced at diesel.
This tractor has been very hard to start for years, it belongs to my dad.
But; it always starts eventually.

I also sprayed a tiny bit of ether into the intake and it did nothing. BUT; I could not crank it, because it made a terrible hard banging sound that I was NOT comfortable with.
I put some diesel into a spray bottle and sprayed it directly into
the intake manifold (removed the air filter setup); but, that did nothing also. This was a very minimal amount of diesel; because my spray bottle didnt like the diesel and
promptly quit spraying. I dont really think I sprayed enough for the engine to fire. I saw this on youtube, dunno if it is proper or not.
The only thing I did to the tractor was removed the 3 hard-lines from the pump to the injectors, and the injectors themselves
for a good cleaning. The tractor WAS running prior to doing this, but just barely. I also removed the glow plugs and tested them.
They took 26 seconds to turn red, but they were working just fine. I used the onboard wiring circuit to test them; to make sure
that the glow plugs AND the wiring FOR the glow plugs were functioning correctly.
