I had the strangest thing happen to me this morning while harvesting trees for firewood. I was dropping a sugar maple with a wicked lean, using the farmi winch to make sure it went the right way. As I made the first cut, there was a huge gush of water where in past experience only wood chips were supposed to be! Startled, I pulled the Husky out of the cut and about 20 gallons of water soaked my pants! Darnedest thing I'd ever seen! "Never seen sap run like that before!" was my first thought. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

It wasn't till I dropped the tree that I discovered the heartwood had rotted out and become a reservoir for rainwater. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Good thing you had that come-along, or it could have been more than water! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Cutting like crazy trying to finish the job before black fly season starts! Usually we lay in a supply of log length in late fall, but there was too much to do last year so we're scrambling to catch up. Splitting it small too, so it'll be dry before cold weather returns in five months. Yikes!

Do you know why ya'll got black flies and we got mosquitos?

We got first choice! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The only thing I hate about fishing Lake Erie is the black fly problem.
Those suckers hurt!!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

That brings back a fond memory...

My wife and I rescue abused golden retrievers. One of our first, Glenfiddich, was a city dog. He came from a big city where there are always lights on. There's no dark like a country dark, and boy he didn't like going outside to do his thing before bedtime! So I got in the habit of taking him outside and walking over to a birch tree. I'd pee on the tree while Glenfiddich watched, then it was his turn. Then we'd come in the house for a quick grooming job before turning in.

It took me about four months to realize the dog had overcome his fear of the dark and was only going out with me for company while I peed! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My Greyhound would always go on the spot where the Weimeraner went. Then the Weimeraner would try to go again until both of them were drained dry. It was an interesting thing to see them swapping positions 3 times before coming into the house. The good thing about it was they never woke us to go out in the middle of the night like the present ones do /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif....

Never had that happen, but my first Weimeraner that always went with me wherever I went, did make one enemy out of a friend. We were at a car show, when he sniffed this fellows leg, took a step forward and then lifted his leg on the person that I was talking to and peed. Needless to say, he wasn't amused at all. I had a hard time not laughing and just apologized for the dog saying that he was just marking his territory. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had the same thing happen in Texas recently with a Pin oak.
I was starting a cut at the bottom, when all of a sudden I thought I'd blown an oil gasket on the Husky. Fortunately it was just blackish water pouring out of the cut, over the blade but I sure panicked for a second! I thought I'd lost a 600 dollar saw for sure.
Pretty surprising when that happens.
