I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you. There is very little hate for "yankees" in the South. There is a huge amount of hate for "rebels" throughout America as anyone can see as Southern statues are torn down by the hundreds, schools, streets and places named after southerners are renamed and southern cemeteries are vandalized. People are taught to be ashamed of being White and that there are no White heroes including all of our presidents.

I apologize if my remarks are not pc but I had to be truthful on this subject.
I disagree wholeheartedly; let's leave it at that.

I see nothing in the story that says the kids knew they were firing at him or had any intent to shot him. Maybe they did (which would be unusual and deprived) or maybe they didn’t.
“Aim” is a tricky word. If you shot a gun, and through ignorance or negligence, hit an unintended target, did you “aim” at that target? Yes and no. Let’s not get carried away without more facts.
Good point... I have a 12 acre field I bush hog; it rises in the middle about 18 ft from the ends, you can't see a tractor at the far end.

So given a 360^ field of fire they could only shoot toward the tractor operator and didn't know he was there? Was it a silent electric tractor with a laser brush hog?? Are the kids hearing-impaired?

Bullet trajectory is never by line of sight. As a former artilleryman I quite understand targets being over a hill, forest, etc and yet the seeming precision result of possibly sky-busting was remarkable for an 'accident'. I guess they never hit a tire but suggest we not get carried away without more facts.

I saw a pheasant about a minimum 1/4 mile away in the middle of a disked and dragged open field. I aimed up with my open sight 22 rifle and fire a round at it. I was about a hundred feet short and off to the side. I corrected a bit and took a shot. Darned if I didn't hit that bird. I was not expecting to hit it, I was just fooling around. I did not plan on killing it and was remorseful about it and 50 years later still feel bad about it.

I really think that is what happened with the two boys. It sounded ike they took turns shooting at something they could actually see. But I am sure they didn't expect the result that came about.

You need a better class of friends.
Actually I have some really good friends.

Try interviewing people for a job. They make appointments and never show. Then do not answer the phone when you call. They may go through the process until the background check and then you find out they are felons. Then send them for drug test and they can not pass. They provide reference that have no records of them ever working there. It is disappointing.

You don't need to take my word for it, just look how as a society we have grown.

You need to take the bad with the good. That's what we forget.

Are some things worse now per peoples perspectives? Heck yes.

The issue is we are only here for so many generations to make comparisons to what we think we had growing up. The past always seems better than the future.

EDIT - All that said, I read crap like this, and I'm like WTF?

Perhaps I'm blessed, I've only ever wanted to bang chicks...
Do you mean the tires on the tractor?
Ok, I’ll take that bet. Let’s say $100.

You’re going to take responsibility and stand by your words right?
I think it’s a great way to get out of a possible sentence (not that juveniles that young serve time). I don’t condone it. And it actually may be what happened. Like I said, I am a farmer and have been told stories by other farmers of their tires being shot-out from a long distance.
My thinking is that ballistics or possibly one youth turning states evidence on the other will provide a means for conviction. Once one of the youths or both find themselves in this predicament, they could very easily reason they were trying to “only shoot out the tires, and they accidentally hit the operator”.
That is a way out I think they will use to avoid punishment. Abhorrent if it’s a lie. Plausible if it’s true.
Am I going to bet you $100? No.
I don’t know why you bring up the wager, but whatever makes you feel good.

I was driving down a highway many years ago and saw 2 kids in a paddock with an air rifle. Next thing, whack! Wasn't sure what it was till I got home and there was lead stuck to the rear door window glass on my car. I was going to drive in and talk to the parents but it was an hour from home.

When I was just starting out, we were driving down the road in the state Suburban when the rear window shattered. The driver said "we've just been shot", and as he started to turn around I tried to convince him otherwise, with the ridiculous thought of him pulling the new .357 he was so proud of. We pulled into a driveway with two kids standing in the garage and observed one kid passing a bb gun to the other behind their backs. Their older sister came out and said "Oh, they finally got one?"

If the target is in the middle of the above mentioned field with the 18ft rise, how does that trajectory line look like? Is it possible to not be able to see a tractor over the horizon, but the trajectory takes the bullet down into the tractor? Jon
