Man killed trying to separate PTO shaft with tractor

It could have been a much better article if the reporter would have said why it turned over. In fairness to them they probably had no idea that bit of information would be so necessary to TBN readers.

Most TBN reader know exactly why he flipped.

Must have missed that thread. I did read one a few days ago where a guy put his tractor on it's side because he hit a hidden obstacle on a slope. He knew why it happened, since he explained it......

When directly asked how did it happened the OP’s last comment on the matter was quote:

“Actually can't say exactly. Trying to go over downed tree and also got on top of the stump hidden in tall grass. It made a hard turn and went over.”

The pictures showed the tractor had a fair bit of additional weight added to the front end raising its center of gravity.

So it was that thread. The OP explains exactly how it happened, not exactly "has no clue how it happened". And he said it was on a slope, you said it looked flat.

But carry on, has nothing to do with this thread.

Obviously, Jay, my attempt at humor was too subtle for you.

TBN readers would be more likely to know than the average population. And they are the ones most likely to see the need to discuss it at length to better understand the reason and why it would be helpful for the average person to understand tractor safety.

Doesn't matter. That should be the reporters job.

I agree. The article had too little detail of the basics. It did not need an accident reconstructionist as some seem to imply would have been required to determine provable cause, just some basic reporting and simple curiosity on the part of the reporter. That article might as well have ended at the title.

Those basic questions are seldom answered in most news articles, print or video. Used to think it was a time issue, now I think its a combination of lack of skills and that the news is for short bits of “entertainment” so you will watch the car dealers adds, not for serious questions and answers.

And that it is a report of an accident, not an accident report.

Yeah, and how many centuries ago was that? These are millennial's we are dealing with now a days. If they can put down the joint long enough to make it to the scene of the accident they are doing good. (man I am a cranky, judgmental old bastich in the morning ain't I) :)

Bingo.. nail hit on head.

“Actually cannot say exactly...” is a very clear statement, despite the poor syntax. It’s the opposite of the OP understanding how it happened.

This does have something to do with this thread’s discussion of understanding roll-over (or flipping) dangers.

I said “what looked like relatively flat ground”.
I realize pictures can sometimes make things look flat, and that different parts of the country have different ideas on what is “flat” or “sloped”. No slope anywhere close to what it take to roll most tractors is shown in the picture. (Yes, there was also the log/stump factor) ....but what I did see, was weight added to make the tractor more top heavy.

It’s important for people to understand the effects of altering the center of gravity or where they connect the load (chain/cable etc..); otherwise they might tip over or kill themselves.
