malfunctioning fuel guage

I have a 2010 Bobcat S-330 skid steer. I am having trouble with my fuel guage. It will move back and forth from empty to full and never give an accurate reading. I have run out of fuel two times now. Does anyone know what the problem might be? thanks

the connector to the sending unit on top of the fuel tank rubs the bottom of the bracket and causes a short
