Making sense of Quick Disconnects

I am installing a Prince SV stackable valve, with 4 spools on my Kubota L3400. The work ports are SAE 8 i.e ORB 8 and are located on the top of the valve. I was planning on having 90 degree elbow fittings on my work ports and then attaching one end of a QD to each of the work ports.

For space, I was thinking of using the longer elbows on the ports on the rear and shorter ones on the ports on the front - so every valve stack would have one short elbow fitting and one long one. Figure I'm going to have to muck around a bit to to get a setup that will allow me enough space to get 8 quick disconnects on there (I have 4 stacks). I might need some 45 degree elbows instead.

I was planning on having 3/8 hoses with JIC -6 female swivel's on the ends.

Here's where it gets tricky. I had no clue that there were several different standards for quick disconnects. Best I can tell, these three are the most popular:

ISO 7241-1 Series A Hydraulic
ISO 7241-1 Series B Hydraulic
ISO 5675 Agricultural

Question 1: Why would one choose one of these three over the other?

Question 2: I can't for the life of me find any of these quick disconnects that will accept anything other than a NTPF. I thought NTPF was somewhat outdated, which is why I was going to go with JIC females on my hoses. Seems like I'm going to need a JIC to NTP adapter on my hoses to get quick disconnects on them.... does this make sense?

BTW, after I'm armed with the information I need, I will be heading into a local hydraulics shop to ge the hoses made and fittings bought. Just want to be prepared with all the information I can get before hand.

My project is FINALLY getting under way.

I used fittings to space my QD's apart, I just took the valve to the shop with me and they helped me...
I used QD's that matched my FEL just to keep everything the same...

kennyd, thanks for posting your pictures. You've got pretty much exactly what I had in mind. You've basically made a longer elbow for the set of ports towards the front of the tractor.

I swear I saw double and triple length elbow fittings sold as is but if I can't source them locally, or if they are not long enough to allow enough room for a QD, I'll do exactly as you did.

Love the mounting job you have done. I'm still trying to sort through exactly how to mount cleanly.

Kennyd - did you actually paint that valve to match your ROPS? I'm also a bit surprised that your valve didn't come with the handles. Sure hope mine does - as I have no plans to make them!

Yes, I did paint it...It was a Surplus Center "deal", that's why it came without handles-I don't think they even sell it anymore.

You could install these elbows below. They are -6 ORB X -6 JIC elbows. one long drop, other standard. There is also an extension on the long drop if you need more room.

WCH, that looks like exactly what I need.

Do you have any thoughts to share on the QD choices? Is it worth me putting on a ORB to JIC elbow given that QD seem to only take NTP? or are there QDs that accept JIC male?

There are ISO-A and ISO-B qd's out there that are ORB. You might want to consider flush face as they tend to be more compact and are readily available in ORB.
