I don't believe it is photoshopped. I wish it was.

If it was real, I'd like to hope that the tree was already broken/cut off 6 ft above the cut. It's not uncommon for tree companies to bring a tree down in pieces.

Makes you wonder what the guy is thinking, or if he is thinking at all. I would much rather see a picture of him teaching the kid to bait a hook.

I also do no think it is photoshopped. I do think he is kneeling. I think that is a climbing helmet.
I did a little google searching. Appears the picture is of "The Community Arborist" posted to his blog 10/18/2009. There's a few comments on the blog properly flaming him.

If youve ever felled a tree you know in the short term that is virtually as safe as no cut at all. Also, motion there is very slow in the far fetched case of a fall starting.

Still a bit stupid but I'm with you here, spyder... Lighten up a bit guys. Unless you never did stupid things when you were younger. Of course I'm a neutered old man now but thinking back I could've died a few times while I was learning. Not you?

I had a discussion with a professional a few years back, and he told me that falling trees, limbs, etc. do some really weird things sometimes; things that you wouldn't expect. True we can't see the rest of the tree, so there's no way to tell what the situation really is...but if it is an intact tree, I say the man is an idiot. Sometimes the guy cutting the tree gets himself killed; why put a child at risk, even it it is an improbable one?
