Maintenance Filters

So I'm coming up on the dreaded 50-hour maintenance for my L3400HST and since I'm doing myself I'm looking to save some money on filters and consumables. I've already discovered I can get hydraulic fluid and oil cheaper at TSC, thats a no brainer, but what I can't find is an alternative to my Kubota dealer's pricing when it comes to filters. Here's what the dealership recommends as far as filters:

HH164-32430 Oil filter
TA040-93220 Air filter inner
TA040-93230 Air filter outer
HH3A0-82623 Hyd ASSY Filter
HHK70-14070 Hyd cartridge filter
6A320-59930 Fuel Filter cart

I ran all of these through various cross reference engines (fleetguard, baldwin, wix, napa, carquest etc) and though some of them had crosses (the air and oil filters), the hydraulic and fuel filters generally didnt... and what crosses there were were generally about the same price as my dealer. The HH3A0-82623 HST tranny filter in particular seems VASTLY overpriced at $33. I just can't imagine any spin on filter actually being worth that for any reason whatsoever other than to screw me out of as much money as they can, but I just can't find any crosses for it.

Anyone who has already done this maintenance successfully find crosses that work and are cheaper than OEM filters?

If I HAVE to use OEM filters, is there anyplace that sells these in a "kit" form that gives you a discount for buying all of these all at once?

I am also doing the 50hr service this coming weekend on my GL3240. Best price I could find for Kubota brand filters is via eBay. Check out Vacwizard as they offer package deals on filters. I purchased a package for my tractor. Vacwizard is really - Canns-Bilco - bush hog, bush hog parts, lawn mower parts, riding lawn mowers, honda lawn mower parts, log splitter, atv mower, snowblowers, Lawn Vacuum, briggs and stratton parts, Troy Bilt parts, kubota tractor parts, kubota oil filters, bush hog, b.

To be honest, considering the amount of $$$ I have tied up in my tractors I can't see using anything but Kubota filters and SuperUDT. I do use the Mobile 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w-40 full synthetic (from WalMart) for the engine oil but everything else is Kubota.

I can see buying synthetic oil or other high quality oil over Kubota dino, if that' your desire.
I can also see buying a super high quality oil filter, and save money doing it. Same with air filters Completely understandable.

My enthusiasm begins to wane when talking about HST fluid. Buying the same quality, by using another OEMs high quality brand or a top quality synthetic can actually cost more.

My appetite for "cross referenced" hydro filters is virtually nil.

The TSC Traveller HST fluid says explicitly on the package that it meets or exceeds the standard for Kubota UDT and John Deere 303. Thats good enough to maintain a warranty and thats good enough for me, especially when its less tan half the price. I personally don't think Kubota's UDT is twice as good because its twice the price, I think its far more likely that Kubota think they can a$$rape me by charging me more than twice what the product is actually worth.

It's a free country, it's your tractor and lots of folks use the TSC products, apparently with little complaint.

That said, you noted it meets udt, but not sudt. The sudt standard is harder to meet. Also, backing up a bit, are you sure, absolutely sure that your manual calls for dumping all your fluid at 50 hours? Many of the newer schedules only call for filter/screen changes and cleaning at 50 hours, with the fluid not being dumped until 300 hours.

If economy is your primary focus, you'd save the most, by far, by leaving the fluid in there until 300 hours, if your schedule calls for that.

Do what you want, but the risk is not worth the reward. If you buy a painfully expensive tractor, why would you cheeze out on the maintenance..Makes no sense to me.

Services are no place to save a buck...if a filter can't handle the pressure or doesn't have a bypass, then what? That 3 bucks you saved will cost you 3 grand.

If you blow an HST on TCS fluid, try selling that one to Kubota Service..They'll tell you to take it up with the generic fluid manufacturer...Best of luck on that one.

I believe there is now No oil that meets SUDT. There was one claiming that it did, but Kubota took them to court and won because it fell so short. It was more like UDT than SUDT.

I recommend the OP do a search on TSC HST fluids in modern Kubota tractors. Check in this forum, the oil forum and even other tractor forums.
The negative far outweighs any positive gained by saving a few $$$'s on these extremely long sevice intervals.....
The biggest complaint is that the TSC fluids cause a much louder whine in the HST. No failures, just poorer all-around performance.
Most go back to UDT/SUDT.....
Now if an extra loud HST whineing away whilst you work doesn't bother you, the TSC equivalent HST fluids should work fine.

Would you please share with us which company that was? I know that Texas Refinery Co. would like us to think that this fluid Texas Refinery Corp. Specialty Lubricants and Greases TRC
(UTF Red) meets SUDT specs.

With the tight tolerances in today's hydraulic pumps and components not to mention engines this is not a place to second guess the manufacturer. While another fluid may say it meets a standard it means a test batch met the standard when tested. So how good is the quality control (consistancy) from batch to batch? The Beta ratings used to be a joke in the filter industry but todays filters are very advanced, the cheapies go to bypass in a short period of time and leave you unprotected. If you plan on keeping the tractor for a long time why skimp here? Kind of like going to an expensive restaurant and ordering a burger

For many Kubota HST hydraulic charge filters there is no cross worth taking the chance on.

Have a Generac 20Kw aircooled that takes the long oil filter and the kit with air filter, oil filter and plugs is less than $15 on Amazon buy 2 or 3 and it will make free shipping. Otherwise Ziller electric had #070185F 5 pack for $40. Not sure what an automotive cross would be.

Try and find a cross-ref after market on Kubota hyd filters is also very hard. There threads are strange and I think for this very reason.

I would never NOT try and use a cross-ref filter since 99% of manufactures filters are not any better.

Kubota does not make filters, the farm them out. I can buy there air filters (from the same mfg) 30 to 40% cheaper then an "OEM filter"; example wise.

For me, skip the OEM filters if you can. What is next, Kubota approved air in tires or kubota apprived tires

Kubota is one of the few manufacturer that makes everything on the tractor from loader to engine and transmission, who else has more knowledge about the requirements of their product. The Super UDT that they use has had SAE papers published about the requirements that the fluid had to meet. They may not make the air and oil filters but I am sure that who they have making them will meet their requirements. If you want a real good case of why I do not like crosses, go look up what WIX specs for the BX fuel filters. Instead of a water blocking paper element they just have a screen in a plastic housing!!!
