Great video's! Thanks for sharing. The homemade quick coupler for the backhoe is a great idea!

Very pleased with it. If I had to buy again I would look at a bigger machine though. I have found myself doing some bigger jobs with it and a bigger machine would of made life easier.

Now, I'm curious what about the larger machine would make it easier? Ground clearance? Weight? Lift capacity? And what job were you doing when you wished you had a bigger machine?

I am on the fence of a Max 28XL or a 3016, thinking bigger is always better, right? :D

A bigger machine would come with a larger backhoe and I would have a larger compactly front bucket. The 5035 is what I would look at. I am very happy with the 28 though and have no plans on trading it in on a bigger machine at this time.

Same motor, Less PTO HP, IIRC, on the 3016. But More lift front and rear would be a plus, along with wider stance, and 3 speed HST.

What is IIRC again? Mind fart on my part!

Yes same motor and for the 3016 vs. 28:
- .9 less PTO HP
- less breakout force on the FEL
- lift increases on both the 3PH and FEL
- larger capacity FEL
- higher hydraulic capacity
- larger weight
- larger R4 tires
- larger dimensions length and width (assume hight as well)
All these make for what I think is a bigger and more capable machine; but wanted to hear the thoughts on this.

Sfrankland, if you had to do it again from the beginning vs. trading the 28 would you just want a little more or you would jump all the way to a 5035? Obviously this also has to do with budget too (5035 is almost twice the price of a 28!).

I use my tractor to do small paying jobs for people after my day job or on weekends. The 28 does an excellent job but I seem to be running it at its limits all the time as far as reach and lift. The 5035 would still get into the areas I typically work and would do the job quicker and easier. With almost 3' of extra reach with the backhoe and nearly double the breakout and lifting compactly of both the backhoe and FEL it would be better suited to the work I do. When I originally bought the 28 it was perfect for my needs. As I started doing work I realized a bigger machine would do the work quicker and more effectively. The area I live in is very rocky and there is no such think as level ground.

Here is a video of a trail I built last fall. I had to grub off the area first then haul all the stumps up to an area where they could be loaded into a dump truck. The 28 did an awesome job but the 5035 would of been better suited.

Nice video . Looks like the max28 is a good machine . I guess it is good for clearing snow . Did you use it to plow the heavy wet snow that we get and if so how did it perform ?

I live on the Avalon so all we get is the wet heavy snow. It did an excellent job last year. This year I traded in the Max28 and bought a 3616 Cab. Looking forward to the heated cab this year.

There is a used max28tlb at Del . Would that be the one you traded ? I think it has 270 or so hrs on it .

No a guy in St. Philips bought mine a few days after I traded it in. Not sure the story on that one.
