Mahindra 5555
The 50 hour service calls for replacing the hydraulic suction filter on our new Mahindra 5555. I ordered it from a dealer online and it was a whopping $110. When I opened the box, I could see why. It includes the machined casting that the spin on filter spins onto. The only thing I can figure is that maybe it is an adaptor for other models that use a cartridge and allows them to convert to spin on. Anyone else running into this? Where did I go wrong?

Very welcome... if your ever looking at the parts list and it shows the star like it did on that one just be sure it says Serviceable to the right of it. If so you can just copy paste the number into your shopping cart:thumbsup:

Parts list ! Shopping cart ! Good grief. Thank you again, Navasot. Nice of Mahindra to have it online. If I had only known.

When I said ordered online, I was not using the Mahindra catalog. I searched Google and found an oil filter on eBay. That dealer did not show a hydraulic filter so I called him and asked him to order one and add it to the order. From looking at the parts diagram this morning, it is easy to see how he might have made his mistake, but still...

This must be you, http://www.j5tractors.com/. Thank you for your help and for your support of the forum.

Did you have to remove the hydraulic fluid when you replaced the spin on filter. I need to service mine now and also he to clean the strainer. Can you give advice?

The 50 hour service that we did calls for replacing the filter but not the hydraulic fluid. Without dragging out my owners manual, I think the fluid does not have to be replaced until 1000 hours but I could be wrong. Anyway, your tractor may be different.

You tractor may be different but on mine removing the filter drains almost all the oil so I waited a bit and did both since the manual says to replace the oil at the first 100 hours anyway. Changing one without changing the other is pretty stupid if you ask me.

Not if you get it off and get the new one on quick.... may loose a quart or two

The 5555 hyd filter vert. and as high as the trans case so it looses some but wont drain the tractor.

1538s are horizontal and low which will drain as long as you leave it off.. wont get it all out though

At the very least you'd make a mess. It's stupid to change one without the other so it's best to just do it right and change both. What is the purpose of changing the filter then changing the fluid only 50 hours later? How stupid can they be even suggesting that? Doing that would make you just as stupid as they are. BTW I don't have any tattoos either.

Yeah should prolly not work on a tractor if you don't wana get dirty

The new premium universal oils that are out these days can last well beyond that if machine is kept up right.... swapping the filter is just being sure your getting rid of larger contaminants... and as long as your oil looks good and clean it will be fine..

Now on the changing fluid without filter no I would not suggest that... but between two service dates (mines once a year for main components) as long as my fluid looks good im going to swap a filter and on the next go around change both....
