Comparison Mahindra 3550 vs Kubota MX5800

   / Mahindra 3550 vs Kubota MX5800 #31
I have looked at many Mahindra's, 1533-2555 range and the 1538 is what I picked on a new machine purchase. BUT I ended up buying used instead and really like my tractor. I think I was at 23k for a 1538 with like 3 attachments (6ft land plane, 7ft rear blade and standard pallet forks) and a bit more for the 2555.

I like Mahindra a whole lot, many more features than the economy tractors the competition is putting out.

Like a few guys have put it in here, with tractors, weight is king and Mahindra comes in at a good amount heavier.

I was more interested in FEL lifting and weight, Mahindra is class leading in both, the direct injection diesel motor with no additives or DPL was a Huge bonus, that means over all less regular maintenance.

So I'm kinda Mahindra bias but I'm sure either tractor will do fine.

The tractors I compared was the Non Grand L4060, Mahindra 1533 and 1538, JD 3038E, WorkMaster 37 and the Case around that HP range.

Out of those Kubota was last of lift capacity, Mahindra was first followed by Case/NH and JD 3rd.

Of that list the Case/NH was most expensive and Mahindra was cheapest.

Also Mahindra had the best warranty of 7 years, worst was NH at 1 year

Only time weight would be a negative is when your truck and trailer is too light to haul it, my truck on my buddies tandem trailer way over loads my F150 so this year I will be upgrading to an 3/4 ton or 1 ton pick up truck. Not a big deal since farm trucks are relatively cheap. But so far I have never needed to leave my property with it yet.

Good luck on whichever you pick.

I think Mahindra is the winner for me. The 3550 wins in every category over the MX5800 with the exception of raw HP. If the 3500 series came in a ~60HP version there'd be no comparison.

Rumors of that happening. Only rumors though.

Only thing I never did was do some research on how well the tractors hold up to abuse and issues other guys were finding.

That info could save a lot of time and aggravation, as much as I like anything mechanical, if it's a known lemon, I would stay away from it. You just never know until you read some reviews and known probs of both machines.

That would be awesome. But I'm guessing if it's just a rumor now that it won't be around by the time I make my purchase in a few weeks

I could hold off if it was going to be a 2017 model thing that might be out in a couple of months though.

Not yet. My local dealer doesn't have a 3550 on the lot for me to officially take my test drive. Expected delivery is the first week of February.

If a dozer is taking too much dirt, get a better operator. The folks I had clear 2 acres left me piles I can smooth out with a landscape rake. The operator said "you can't burn dirt". Heavily wooded with 4-6" loblolly pine and the occasional 12-20" pine/oak/maple. Started to clear it with my Mahindra 4025 and a puller I built like the one in the post above, then ran out of patience and energy after several hundred trees and only clearing about 1/3 of an acre. Best $2500 I have spent on the land.

There is clearing and there is clearing. For any growth that been around 20-25 years undisturbed, excavators and dozers are the way to go then clean up with your tractor. I have an 18,000 lb excavator, and it was an all summer project to clean up a 1/2 acre. The burn pile was the size of two boxcars.
