I see a lot of "grid heater delete spacers" on the web. Are they replacing the stock grid heaters with something else for engine preheat?

A 6BT engine doesn't need a grid heater till the temperatures get to around the freezing mark. Until then they start just fine without it. They'll even start without the grid heater at lower temperatures but can be a bit grumpy about it.
