Still under 100 hours.

My dad dug the trench with his excavator, I was working on getting the pipe in the ground and covered up with the tractor. I keep seeing drops of hydraulic fluid in the sand. I have added at least a dozen hydraulic fittings, a hydraulic filter, and 5 or 6 hoses. The first leak I encounter is on something I haven't even touched. I haven't figured out where exactly the leak is yet, I'm hoping i just need to tighten one of the nuts on this box thing I haven't ID'ed yet.

So I went to try and fix the hydraulic fluid leak, hoping it was just something that needed to be tightened. Not the case.. the fluid is coming around these two round plug things. What is this?

[edit] I still don't know what this box does but the plug on the right wasn't even finger tight. I screwed it out and apparently the rubber seal is damaged.

I screwed it back in, tight, with the damaged seal and it slowed the leak but it was still leaking badly. I found some nylon tape and wrapped it around the threads as well as the damaged seal and put it back in as tight as I could get it. Doesn't seem to be leaking any more.

Totally unrelated, I didn't know toads could climb. I'd love to know how this guy got up on top of the axle. I bet the climb wasn't graceful..

New to the group. I was having a hard time finding a thread where they talked about a Mahindra 2545. I would appreciate opinions on them. I was at a dealer today looking at a 2538. As I was talking to the salesman he said I have a 2545 that you can have for less. It was a loaner with 10 hrs on it...shuttle/loader/cab...$26,000. I have to pay cash. I'm thinking that's a lot of tractor for the money. More power...more flow...more breakout and heavier.
Decent dealer...30 miles away. Unless I'm missing something, this is a great deal?? I don't mind shifting at all. Is the clutch up to the task on these tractors? Are you happy with them? Am I correct in assuming that they don't offer a mid PTO and they have no rear remote. I want to run a grapple and a small round baler. Anything that you have to say will be appreciated.

I'm happy with mine I had the two rear remotes and the third function added from the dealer. I have the 2540 which is the same tractor just 5 less hp in the motor and PTO. I have about 160 hours on mine and I'm happy. I was in the same situation as you that is how I ended up with the 2540. I wanted the 2538 but right next to it was the 2540 for only $800 more at first. By the time I was done I ended up with my tractor and a 6 foot finish mower for $24k cash. I only mow and use mine for moving logs and firewood but it is a good machine. I don't know what you will be using it for but I would not hesitate to by it. It is a lot of tractor and power for a small machine compared to some of the other models Mahindra offers. The PTO i believe is an independent PTO, don't believe a mid mount is offered.

That's good news. I told the dealer yesterday that I would take it. Seems like a lot of tractor for the price. I told him to add the third function and a rear remote. He wants $1500 for the third function and $1000 for the remote. I thought that seemed high.

I got quoted last week at $916 plus labor for a 3rd function. $1600 for 1st and 2nd rear spools + maybe 2-300 in labor to install them. First remote was a few hundred more than quoted for 2nd.

That doesn't sound to far off. I think I paid around that for the third function and the two rear spools. My rear spools were a Christmas present from some family members a couple years ago they purchased me gift cards to the tractor dealer. I know there are cheaper versions out there but I wanted the manufacturer third function, which is actually a diverter valve not a true third function. If you wanted a true third function, check out everything attachments. There are other brands out there but I have purchased from them and I like them. For the two spools I'm sure it is the same I only had about 30 hours on it and I didn't want to add an aftermarket set on it. If you put the question out there I'm sure other members here could point you guys where to look, there are some good brands out there.
