I was more shocked that this goof ball would turn out a dog on me knowing what kind of dog it was. She was the owner and she trained this dog one way or another. I have several dogs and I know the temperament of each one. I am not surprised at the pit bull he was just what he was trained and bred to do, attack and attack he did. I was doing what I do protect myself. If I had not been on the job I would have been carrying a concealed weapon which our company policy prevents(good thing for the pit bull or he would have had an extra orifice in his head):D. I do not hate dogs I have several( I live in WV and have an image to maintain):D.

You were kind. After you KOed that dog with your pipe wrench, I think I might have dragged it to the road and accidentally run over it's head - twice. Next time it could be a little kid or an older person that get that jaws of death grip.

I understand the dog's behavior, it's the owner that worries me. How many people in this country are using or have used psychotropic drugs? The use of drugs to treat ADD alone quadrupled from 1993 to 2003. This is scary to me. Maybe someone in the health field has a clearer perspective on this. In any case, between illicit drug use and prescribed drug use, there are a lot of folks out there that may be permanently brain damaged.
Dave.

This is timely. I was just walking my dog at the local park and here come two dogs, off leash, growling and heading right for us. Owners are yelling and dogs are oblivious. When they got about 5 feet away I nailed one then the other with Halt. Of course that was when the shouting started about what a terrible person I am and how harmless those dogs are. The dogs stopped in their tracks and did the face wiping thing, no one was injured.

Every trail entrance has the same sign - all dogs must be on a 6 foot leash. Everyone thinks they are the exception.

That's when you spray the idiot owners,,,,just say'in

Interestingly, I was there again yesterday and here comes the same troupe - except with dogs on leash. Maybe , just maybe they got the subtle hint. ;)

Use wasp spray for self defense.

Frankly that would be daft.

Pepper spray and MACE has been used on gazillions of people. Its effects are well studied and known from the standpoint of the health risks on people as well as stopping ability.

Wasp spray is designed to kill bugs. Not stop people.

Let says Joe Homeowner uses wasp spray on Timmy Thug who was trying to steal is $50 lawnmower and Timmy goes blind. Do you think Joe Homeowner is going to still have a home?

Using wasp spray or as a quick search showed, brake cleaner, is asking for a lawsuit. If one needs a self defense spray then buy a self defense spray. Don't use some half fanny solution that may or may not work and/or puts one at great legal risk.

Using bug or brake spray on an attacking dog off your premises would be risking for trouble.

I think there's a thread in the safety section on using brake cleaner that makes me wonder if anybody ought to use it for any purpose?

I have used brake cleaner that melted plastic/rubber gloves. Made my hands feel funny too.:eek: Can't imagine what the stuff would do to an eyeball.

The newer stuff seems less, errr, hmm, toxic. :D It does not melt plastic/rubber gloves. :D

I thought they said it would migrate through gloves, into the skin and into the liver.

Do a search on using wasp spray for self defense. Shoots out 15-20 and legal from what I have read. Mace or pepper spray, target has to be real close. NOT half fanny or daft.
