Right, I keep an eye on which way the wind if blowing and also use a stream vs a mist spray.

And don't feel like you need to find a new route with no dogs. You don't need to get permission from anyone's dog to walk down a public street. The dogs learn quickly to leave you alone and you are doing everyone in the area a favor by standing up for your rights. The bullies here are the dog owners who get a vicarious kick out of seeing their dogs intimidate you.

that is the unspoken truth right there. Because pitbulls and rotties are not cute by any means.

Yes. In every level of our society. You can't go a day without witnessing some bad behavior. The inmates are running the asylum.

It's all a result of our politically correct society. In years past those kind of people would be ostrosized by the neighbors but now, we worry we might offend someone.

This is sad I keep my dogs up during hunting season and in the spring when folks walk. well leave the 2 males out. Dogs are dangerous when they Pack up like that, 90 percent of all bad dog combos are either 2 females or a Male and Female. Most folks usually stop by and tell me that the dogs walked with them their trip. on the other hand the renters down the road had several mean dogs that you couldnt walk because of them. My service truck doesnt have a working fuel gauge and I use the odometer for a fuel gauge. I ran out of fuel and was gonna use my service tank to get home and these dogs came after me. I put my thumb over the fuel nozzle and sprayed snot out of them. That wouked till I got my breaker bar out. My grand mother when she walked always carried a cattle prod with her to make dogs go away.

Some good advice here and some not so good. 1st off allways be aware of your surroundings and protect yourself. How you carry yourself and act could be the complete decider in how an animal will REACT! Carry yourself like you are king of the road don't move for the dog make it move{UNLESS you need to move for protection}. 2nd, I'd be real shy of carrying big sticks and such, some animals see this as an attack on their territory???? They make a tool that can go from tool belt size to quite long in a flash, much less threatening. 3rd, sprays may be a better defense then a stick, but if it does not work you may be in for one real PE'od pooch. 4th, what are your gun carrying laws? If you are really concerned for your safety and have told the cops, didn't get anywhere, then maybe it's time ? Once again the dog thing comes up on here but this time I'd say everyone agrees,.,.,.,IT IS THE OWNERS at fault !!!!! Just had to add that because this is the true problem. To bad we couldn't woop up on these owners

I had a friend bitten by a dog while she was out campaigning for office. She said it came out of no where and was on her before she even saw it. Even if she had some kind of spray, the dog got her before she knew it.

Mom was knock down by a charging pit bull... lost a tooth and left her with a hairline shoulder crack... not good at any age... especially not when you are 69...

Nothing could be done about the dog since it did not bite her... the family was renting.

Don't think mace would have worked... but you never know.

This is the trouble when something like this happens in a lot of cases it happens in a split second or faster. I have seen dogs that seem nice and non-aggressive all of a sudden get upset. Could be a smell, sound, odd site who knows ???? I think in todays society folks sometimes forget these are animals and do not think like us.

I was more shocked that this goof ball would turn out a dog on me knowing what kind of dog it was. She was the owner and she trained this dog one way or another. I have several dogs and I know the temperament of each one. I am not surprised at the pit bull he was just what he was trained and bred to do, attack and attack he did. I was doing what I do protect myself. If I had not been on the job I would have been carrying a concealed weapon which our company policy prevents(good thing for the pit bull or he would have had an extra orifice in his head). I do not hate dogs I have several( I live in WV and have an image to maintain).
