I think engine design and coolant flow have also improved.

Several years ago I put a Ford 400M V8 in my Jeep Wrangler. Bought the biggest 4 core aluminum radiator that would fit. Mechanical fan with 16" electric fan in front and still couldn't cool it when wheeling. :)

I've learned that it's not so much the number of rows but the size of the tubes and the amount of coolant flow. I had a 2 row aluminum radiator with 1 1/4" wide tubes in my hotrod and the thermostat stuck open, it wouldn't get above 130 degrees and that was with 100 degree ambient temperature.

I believe you are looking at the hydraulic oil cooler in front. Radiator is the last in the stack prior to the fan, and it n front of it the hydraulic oil cooler, AATAC, and air conditioner condenser.

Yep. That was my point. They are so efficient they can be stacked. Worst part of that design is cleaning them. If they aren't on sliders it is a challenge.

On the JD grader I run they are not stacked and the fan is hydraulic and automatically reverses for 10 seconds every 30 minutes. They never need cleaned.

Everything swings up on the M7 so you can get to the radiator for cleaning.

Here we are with the M7 hooked to the dyno. It made 142hp at 580 PTO RPM. With the throttle turned down to 2005 RPM/540 PTO RPM it made 110 HP.
