Yours looks dry. This is mine on my m62 after a year and 140hr. If this looks messy you don稚 want to see my backhoe. I grease every 8hr and use some pretty nasty stuff, but you won稚 get much slop over time.

Exactly, how this one is setup internally it would be impossible for grease to "go in" at all. The other location appears to have a sleeve designed for grease flow.
Kubota mistake from the factory? (My pin was slightly grooved, judging by the piece I replaced and the new unit this was from uneven weld of tube to plate, I replaced it and kept original as spare.) This is why I was asking about that lube setup, I should have taken more pics I'll have to check as I did this awhile ago now.

I see what you mean, and am glad you re-opended this thread. I'd completely missed that point you made before about the grease path to that joint.

Like you said in the previous posts, the zerk needs to be able to feed the grease to the right places. I agree, and don't see how the same thing can be accomplished for that joint with only a center zerk. Even with a zerk in the end of the pin it would require a center drilling and no less than 5 grooves along along with each groove having its own hole to connect to the center drilling. Probably a zerk in each end, too. Anything less, and some joint is going to suffer lack of lube. I'm going to go check mine soon as this rain stops.

As an aside, I'll say that it has always fascinated me that grease zerk technology is so primitive on a machine that also has high tech things like a HST transmission and a low emission diesel. It's like one part of the machine was designed by hot shot engineers and the other part by monkeys. Not limited to Kubota, however. I've seen the same thing on lots of other makes.

Back to messicks again to find the sleeve for this pin as it's clearly not the proper one. I've broken around 3 bolts that hold this pin in because the pin can't slide how it's supposed too, and I've taken it out and greased it... the zerk is useless and I need it """right"" now that I'm using the tractor for some projects vs. moving stuff from time to time.

I also need a backhoe dipper cylinder replacement/refurb to exchange with mine or a cylinder gasket rebuild kit.

This is I believe the replacement bushing I need that goes in the cylinder end that has zerk on top: 7J417-58730

Although not too sure how i'll remove it from the cylinder itself ? Pressing it back in shouldn't be a problem.

Time to chase down the backhoe parts now.

Looks like messicks sells a "seal kit" for $200 for the cylinder.

Has anyone done this vs. taking to local Kubota and buying/swapping for a refurbished cylinder?

I've never rebuilt a hydraulic cylinder like this but I've rebuilt off-road shocks with similar principals (and size) without any issues -- if I've done that do you think I can handle the hydraulic cylinder?

You say it's the dipper stick? What is wrong with the cylinder? Just leaking? You can handle that OK if you can get the big gland nut off.
There was a problem with some early M59s and their main boom cylinder where it wouldn't retract far enough to engage the boom lock. Mine started doing that at about 200 hrs. Kubota had a warranty campaign program at the time which took care of it.

Leaking - yep. That's it, but enough it bleeds down fast, and is making a mess AND the bigger problem I need to change all fluids, not cheap, and would rather know no leaks or containment can get in :)

Im a bit upset I wasn't notified about that recall/problem as I'm an original owner/purchased new from Kubota Dealer :(

Mine still moves back far enough to engage the latch even with the problem/leak I'm having now but after about 200ft it's bled-down and bounced around, now around 2-3mo after I noticed the leak it's gotten a little worse and I have to make sure to pay attention to keep it 'up' or I will drag the bucket if not paying attention when going up a slope.

I don't mind buying the tool for the gland nut or making my own, just don't want to do all that and not have the torque to get it off ;) But It hink I can handle it.

I'm confused which cylinder that you are having problems with. Back in post #14 you said it was the dipper cylinder when you said, "I also need a backhoe dipper cylinder replacement/refurb to exchange with mine or a cylinder gasket rebuild kit."

But that confuses me because I don't see any way that dipper stick movement can cause the bucket to drag when the main boom is retracted and latched for traveling. Are you sure you are getting parts for the correct cylinder?

BTW, I wasn't notified by Kubota about the MAIN BOOM CYLINDER upgrade either. That's fair; not all of them had a problem. For those that had a problem It wasn't a leaking problem, probably something internal that prevented it from retracting far enough to latch. My guess was that the internal piston stop had moved somehow. I didn't find out about the replacement cylinder being offered until I talked with Kubota.
