I realize this thread is older, and that the OP already replaced his Lynx. Just thought I'd add my thoughts.
I have a Lynx 70"
It stinks. Works, but I need to go slow otherwise I'll just be pushing a pile of snow behind the blower.
I've got plenty of PTO HP (28.5) and it doesn't bog down. The blower just can't throw the snow any faster.
It comes down to 2 things when determining how much, and how quickly a blower can clear snow.
1. Fan diameter & Depth
2. Auger diameter.
(and #3 is the obvious one. 3. Enough HP to effectively run both)
The Lynx's fan and auger are too small. ( even on the 52" model)
What makes this worst is that it keeps the same size for the 64" and 70" models.
Compare a Lynx 52 to a Radtech Blizzard & Puma P-540:
Lynx 52 21"x 6" deep fan, 14" auger.
Puma P540 22 x 9" fan, 16" auger
Blizzard 54 24" x 7" deep fan, 15" auger
A little math for fan volume (V=pi x r2 x h)
Lynx = 2,077 cubic inches
Puma = 3,419.46 cubic inches
Blizzard = 3,165.12 cubic inches
Basically, both the Puma & Blizzard can throw over 50% more snow than the Lynx. Almost 70% more in the Puma's case!
The larger auger gets more snow to fan quicker as well.
And, as others have stated a 24" will throw snow a whole lot further than a 20" fan.
So, yeah. I'm getting rid of my Lynx 70" in favor of a Puma P-680 (24x10.5" fan, 19" auger. Over 2.25X more snow capability than the Lynx 70. I'll lose 2" of width, but I think I'll live)
Yes, the Puma 680 is a lot more money than the Lynx 70. When it's 5 degrees outside after a 20" snowstorm, I won't care.
