One thing to think about is the treated wood you use today is different then the old stuff. I think OSHA did something about it the chemicals being used.

They don't use Arsenic since 2003 because it is a Hazardous Substance.

I remember building stuff outside with treated wood and it would last a long time... no rot and no bugs. The stuff I bought 2008 is useless because the Carpenter Bees don't have any problems with the new stuff.

Your right about the Carpenter Bee's, mind has been up about 3 years, I am finding holes in the treated 6x6's, so I have been filling the holes with black oil base paint, they seem to love it because they are not eating holes in the wood anymore.

Carpenter Bee's are so bad, we have lots of them up here I'm upstate N.Y. They have bored holes in treated 2"x4"'s 4"x4"'s and cedar decking. I just put on a new rail system and deck and there are bee holes all over, nasty little buggers they are.

I'm not saying you should do this, but I seem to remember a cup of oil drainings around each post every 2-3 years does wonders for the life of them. Most rot at the surface in our soils at least. Oil discourages the buggers.

I remember reading about the same thing they were wrapping the timbers in plastic and pouring oil into the sleeve to water/bug proof them . The sleeve would be there to add a cup or so of oil every few years.

Looking good. That is a steep pitch for a pole barn roof. You going to have a loft?

Chris
