I was browsing the site and got to thinking how lucky we are to have a source of info like this at our disposal. Just think of our less fortunate fore fathers that had to muddle through life with no internet. Thanks to all who make this site possible. Special thanks to Mr. Gore for inventing the internet.

Al Gore never claimed to invent the internet. He was taking credit for legislative and funding bills that helped.

This LINK at Snopes has the background including a link to the original 1999 CNN interview were this came from.

Al Gore said this:

During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet.

While he may have been referring to the legislation that he was involved with, he did say it, even if it was taken out of context. So, therefore, it is fair game to anyone with a sense of humor. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Ranks right up there with my favorite newspaper headlines:

"All Blows To Head Serious"
"Lab Monkeys Crave Pot"

And my favorite:

"Hundreds Of Readers Poled"

Man, that's gotta hurt! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Yep, we can find out anything in a matter of minutes. There's no need to fly blind when doing anything anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Sure sounded like it to me. That's what you call a "faux pas". Could happen to anyone.

I'm glad that wasn't the "RED" phone ole GW was trying to use. Hate to see a giant mushroom cloud on the horizon.

No, This Man Invented The Internet

Talk about luck: If an obscure agency inside the Pentagon hadn't happened to hire an equally obscure psychologist named J. C. R. Licklider back in the fall of 1962, we wouldn't be living through an Internet revolution now—because the Internet would not exist. And if Lick, as he was known, had followed his initial instinct to turn down the job at ARPA (the Advanced Research Projects Agency), we might have missed out on a pretty big chunk of the personal computer revolution, too. Except that Lick did accept the job, and that made all the difference. Indeed, says Jack Ruina, director of ARPA at the time, hiring Licklider was arguably the most significant single thing he ever did there.

He just wishes he could remember how it happened.
