Be careful oil filters are not all the same. I would stick with a Kohler oil filter
on a Kohler engine.

You can use 2 Kohler filters
12-050-01-S
Or
52-050-02-S
I recommend NOT Using a will fit after market filter that say Kohler Replacement filter.

Use OEM Parts when ever possible on these engines.

Spend the $8 or 9$ on original than risk an engine with a $4.00 filter

You already have a $1600.00 investment. Protect it !!

To each his own I guess. I've been using Fram filters since 1978. I used Fram for both engine (Kohler) and transmission on my 1450, which ran 1200 hours from 1978 to 2004. I've been using Fram for the Kohler engine on my $7k 3235 from 2004 to present with no problems on either. I had to pull the 1450 engine and replace the oil pan and the engine was spotless inside.

Patronizing your local dealers is a great thing, but obviously there is no need to run OEM oil filters. Not sure what engine/series you have on your 1042, but I run the equivalent to a Motorcraft FL400 on my Kohler Command 20hp. It's about twice as long as the OEM size filter (engine holds more oil with it). There are probably a dozen aftermarket filters 'sizes' that are completely compatible with your Kohler. I don't use Fram anymore because of their cost, when I can get a Carquest/Napa WIX, etc...etc.. for the same price. Many OEM filters are made by Honeywell and are identical to a store-bought Fram, but painted other than orange. Filter bypass settings have nothing to do with actual through-put through a filter. Bypass settings are specific to the filtering media.

I don`t know for sure about the cingle cylnder kohler,but my v-twin in my 1045se takes an A/C pf-52 filter,or Fram ph-3600.

Similar to the Drive System Fluid. An inexpensive product with an expensive Cub Cadet label.

That doesn't make either of them bad though, just overpriced...
