LS XR4046 regen advice

My XR4145HC hit its first regen at ~17 hours. I run it in the 2000-2400 range but it has run at 1000-1500 for about 1.5 hours of those 17 hours as the RPM's are lowered when working with people and talking to them through the window just to make it quieter. The regen took about 15 minutes and occured while running bush hog. It didn't impact the work being done. Around 12 hours the tractor went into limp mode when the fuel filter dash light came on. I looked that up and it inidicated that the fuel filter sensor was detecting water in the filter, so I bled the water from the filter, and was back to normal. Unhappy about somehow having water in the fuel in only 12 hours of use though! Didn't go back to that gas station to get fuel.

Thanks for the info. I am worried about this limp mode problem but so far, so good. Nice to know if it happens to bleed water from filter. Be interesting to see if the different gas station solves problem- hope so.

The newer LS XR3100-4100 series have the LS engine. Regen cycles on them are around every 50 hours.

I have a XR4145HC and my experience is regen occurs every 13-17 hours. Definately better than the every 5 hours of the previous engine, but no where near the 50 hours claimed. I run it almost constantly at 2000 RPM or higher other than when starting it and letting turbo get lubericated (per manual) and before shutdown to let turbo cool (per manual) or if trying to talk to someone through window to lower engine noise. So of a typical 17 hour run, 15+ hours is definitely 2000 RPM+ use, and I am still never getting near even 25 hours between regens, let alone 50. I am curious if any other 3100/4100 owners have actually achieved a regen delta of over 40+ hours. If there are any owners regularly getting 45+ hours, then I would start to suspect something wrong with my unit, but I think that 50 is definitely not the average and I question their truth in advertising on that one. That being said, the tractor has been great so far and when it does regen, other than the lights, I don't notice a power drop or ability to work, so its not a big deal.

I agree, Pivot. I'll let ya know if my second regen hits at 34 hours (since first hit at 17). I have a feeling the 50 number is a myth. I would like to hear from other 3100/4100 users, as well. I'll keep running at high rpms but I think the norm is going to be around 20 or less. As long as it keeps working normal, I don't mind though...

Three regens in 32 hours for me, anticipate the fourth soon at this rate. I have the same concerns although I get no codes and everything seems to run fine.

Mine is currently at 84 hours. My first regen was just before 32 hours, and the second was at 68 hours. As long as you are working and the RPM's are over 2000, it is barely noticeable. I'm beginning to suspect that fuel quality has a lot to do with regen. Around the time of my first regen, the exhaust was smoking occasionally. My dealer said that was generally a sign of poor fuel quality. Shortly after the second regen, I bought a 300-gal tank and ordered a load of off-highway ULSD. Since I started using that, I don't have the smoking issue, and my "seat of the pants" analysis seems to say that it is running better. We'll see when the next regen hits.

I had a regen close to 17 hours, now at 38 hours and haven't encountered the second. I have been keeping my RPMs higher, as others said it makes a difference.

Having owned a New Holland 1720 for the past 10 years I can attest to the durability and engineering of Shibaura. I would think that fuel quality and engine load would have the most influence on the regen cycle than anything else. I just traded for a Workmaster 50 that has a FPT Tier 4B engine that utilizes only a catalytic converter. I wanted to move up in loader capability and tractor size. I would not be at all convened about the cycle times. I would think that the 50 hour cycle time stated would be under optimal operating conditions.

Fuel, hmmmm....

Maybe it's the 10% mandated biodiesel in Minnesota.

Well guys, had my second regen at 41 hours. It seems my tractor likes to regen around every 20 hours. Not close to the 50 they advertised, but still not a big deal to me. It regened while I worked.
