Gents: I'm new to the forum, have been looking at cab tractors and have decided that the best buy is an LS XR4040HC, maybe not as many features as the JD, Kubota or NH cab tractors, but certainly more standard features for a whole lot less $$. Anybody have any experience with the LS XR series in any horsepower? Thanks!!

I purchased the xr4046HC and really love it. I did ad the third remote for a grapple. I can pick up 2000 lb. rocks, mow, just about anything. The heating and A/c are really nice and the windows open so it is really comfortable. I am so glad I got the Hydro model, it is perfect for loader work, and everything for that matter. it is a pure pleasure to operate and now that I have some hours on it, everything is so ergonomic i don't have to reach for anything. It comes with a nice lighting setup so operating at night is easy. if you have anymore questions feel free to ask, I didn't have anyone to ask when i got mine and was really not sure. 20140117_135817.jpg

Many thanks for the reply! I have really looked at the JD and Kubota cab tractors both new and used here, the new ones are about $14k more than this XR4040 and the used ones are the same price as the new LS without a warranty and most of them looks like the servicing was questionable. There are only two LS dealers in the state, both about 75 miles away from me, the easiest one to get to is really making me a great deal and taking two old farm trucks in trade and including a huge cash discount, rear lights, rear wiper, etc. My only concern is for parts and service since he is so far away and he has a very small operation, he has several open floor units in stock and XR cab tractors, two 37's and the one 40, I would have liked to drive the 46 hp, but he is telling me that he needs to move some tractors before he can order more, I'm sure he has reached his floor plan limit with the ones in he has in stock and I have been looking at these since early November. I have had several talks with the LS rep, seems like a great guy, but has a huge territory and doesn't know when he is going to get more dealers in Colorado. The local JD and Kubota dealers are really talking the Korean tractors down because of parts availability, the closest NH dealer doesn't even know that the 40 hp model he has on his showroom floor is an LS made tractor! He was shocked that I could buy the same tractor with the cab/loader cheaper than he could sell me the open station NH without a loader! I work for a Korean car company, they are great, the quality is equal to or better than the competitors, if the LS brand is close to that same scenario, JD and Kubota better be looking in their mirror if LS gets some dealers close to the big guys!

They probably talk them down for "parts availability" because they need to grasp for straws to make their own lines sound more appealing ... let's face it, when the competing product is just as good but sells for substantially less, you need to help your own justify the extra costs of what you sell.

Parts for LS are no harder to get that parts for a Kubota or JD. No one and I mean no one keeps parts in stock nowdays other than oil and filters and a few minor cost items. I recently broke the hydraulic oil filter housing on my Kubota which is right under the belly of the tractor, exposed to all kinds of damaging things that one might run over. I would think this would be a frequent part to be replaced on a CUT but they had to order it just like most other places. Even small LS dealers can get you any part in about 3 days from central distribution centers and they can have them drop shipped directly to your house. When I bought my LS, I had the dealer put together a care package of all the filters needed for service, 2 of everything except the air filter which I only got one of. That way I had a spare for everything and could reorder by phone if needing more.
In todays world (my world at least) 75 miles is not that far to go for a tractor. Heck my nearest airport if further than my tractor dealer. If you do your own tractor trailering, once you are loaded and tied down, an hour or so drive isn't that far, assuming that you ever need to take your tractor in for service. I took mine in once and all the items could have been fixed by me at my farm, but since the 2 year bumper to bumper warranty was about to run out, I wanted them to check it over. They replaced the seat with a new style support and replaced the underbelly drawbar support completely with a newly designed one. I had broken the belly mount, lost the pin and they replace it and the drawbar swing support which wasn't damaged but was a new design. The drawbar broke when I was attempting to pull a fully loaded dump truck out of the mud and the tractor started humping and surging, before I could push in the clutch, it broke the pin housing. A small tack weld broke on the seat and I fixed it by rewelding the location which made it better than new, but they replaced the mount anyway with a newly redesigned one. I have had any other problems. Almost forgot, the fuel tank started leaking due to a bad designed skid plate that was mounted to the tank (plastic). I got a brand new tank, with re-designed skid mounting. I still have it in my shop waiting for my JBWeld fix to fail. It has been over 2year and still holding. I built my own skid mount to totally protect the tank with steel plate front to back so the redesign is still in the box with the new tank.
All in all, I think they are very well built tractors. LS design engineers seem to work flawlessly to correct problems when owners report an issue which I admire. Some manufacturers(Kubota for one) don't correct any flaw no matter how many people report an issue. My tractor was the first year marketed in USA and did have a few flaws which were quickly re designed and furnished without cost. I like that in a tractor company and the fact that LS is much cheaper and more ergonomic than some of the others is just icing on the cake.

Gary: that's great news and I appreciate your candor about the LS product. I have been the district mgr for Hyundai for almost 24 years, I received a lot of trash talk from friends and other manuf reps in the early years, interesting to know that a lot of them have called me the last few years to see if they could get a deal on a new car or a job!! The fact that Hyundai had or still has something to do with LS is also very appealing to me as well. I'm long past where some of my neighbors ego is about that they have to have a green tractor and a Ford in the garage, the towing rig is a dodge diesel and the tractor on the small acreage is an older mfwd NH. The purchase of this 40 horse LS is probably my last tractor, it will eventually end up at my 60 acre farm for my daughter and son in law to replace the old Ford 3000 ( which I have owned for over 30 years and will probably outlast me!!). The LS dealer has a small store, is very friendly, accommodating and seems to have a great reputation and has made me more than a generous deal on this unit, everything has been so smooth and easy that I am looking for the negative, especially after trying to deal with the name brand dealers around here and the $14k to $16k higher prices that they are quoting me to privileged to own one of their green, orange or even blue machines(that they don't even know that it is made by LS!). Thanks again for the positive comments!! Ron

TSO: sorry I missed your post! I agree with your comment that they talk down the tractors that they don't sell and obviously are starting to worry about! Sure the green and orange ones have some fancy stuff like load match, high/low speeds on the hydro etc, but quite frankly, I don't need all of that and is just something else to worry about after the warranty expires! I am really having a hard time deciding between the XR3037(which is almost the same specs as the JD 3520) or the XR4040 (which is almost identical to the Kubota L4060 specs). For the extra $2000 that I have been quoted, the XR4040 will end up in the shop!

I would agree with you on the price upgrade, definitely worth it. Better specs all around

Well I committed to the XR4040 on Saturday afternoon, there are a few things that need to be done, the heater water valve above the headlining had a small leak, so the dealer is replacing that and any of the damaged parts that it leaked on, I have them installing a radio while they have the roof off as well as a engine block heater and the rear window wiper kit. I hope the 40 horse is ok, I wanted the 46 horse, but the dealer made me a very attractive deal and took two old farm trucks in trade, it's too good of a deal to pass up!! Pending some of the parts arriving and getting everything installed, the dealer should deliver it to me around the end of next week or the early part of the last week of the month. Needless to say, I hope that I am as pleased with the tractor as I am with the deal and dealer! Just wish that there was a dealer closer to where I live, in time I hope that Ls gets more distribution in the Colorado area. The good thing is that I had a discussion with the service mgr at the NH/Kubota dealership north of Denver, amazing that he didn't know that the Boomer 40 on his showroom floor was an LS made tractor, he told me that he would be happy to service it for me since it had a Shibuara engine/hydrostatic, sure a lot more positive news than the former NH dealer (now a JD dealer) and his service mgr had to say to me! And they still have a contract with NH and Cub Cadet that they sold me and still service for me! Pretty narrow minded, the ego and arrogance of the green guys amazes me! I use a tractor about 50 hours a year at our small horse farm and about 100 hours a year at our bigger operation, I couldn't find a used 40 hp from any of them, all they wanted to do was sell me a new one for the high $30s at 0% interest and when I did find a dealer with a used 3 or 4 year old tractor, well it was either really well used or a bank repo and they couldn't or wouldn't offer me a mechanical warranty, so here comes the LS and the other guys lost a customer!!

Well I took delivery of the XR4040 last Saturday, it almost was too tall to fit through the barn doors, the tractor had a couple of minor problems, nothing major, but , I wasn't sure that I liked it, so I went to look at the XR3037 again, the dealer made the swap this Wednesday, I used it today moving snow and like it, obviously not as heavy duty as the 40 hp, but with the almost 800 pounds less wt and the turbo, it sure feels great! The dealer is really a great dealer, he even offered to swap again if I wasn't happy, but told me he sells about 4 to 1 of the 3037 to the 4040, the LS rep told me he sells 2 to 1 of the 3037's in his territory, if I was doing a lot of heavy lifting, the 40 would make sense, but on my 10 acres, I think it's great and the specs are almost identical to the JD3520. If we do some other stuff with our daughter and son in laws place, I may add a XR4046 later. In the meantime, anyone that has any questions on the XR3037, send them my way, and if in Colorado, the dealer in Penrose has certainly earned my referrals and my future business!

BSHFieldmaster: Congrats on your new purchase and thanks for all the great information on the LS Dealer in Penrose. I will likely be moving to Southern CO in a few years after retiring from Active Duty and have been reading the TBN forum for several months now. Great information from everyone on this forum; it is one of my favorite pastimes now. Can't wait to one day buy my tractor and the LS's are definitely in my top two choices. There are a lot of positive comments from the Kioti owners as well so we'll have to see. Am thinking about the 40 hp cab model for snow blowing and it will need to be able to lift the 2000 lb pallet of wood pellets off my trailer. Really enjoy your detailed comments and info about your experience with the dealer - really helps us future owners! Many thanks and best wishes!

RSGreen: I did a lot of research on all of the brands, was very interested in both parts availability and service, while the dealer in Penrose is very small, he used to be a Montana rep before they went out, he picked up Jimma and TYM franchises and while he still works on them for servicing and warranty work, he has dropped them in favor of only stocking LS, the green, orange and NH blue are great tractors, very pricey and while the dealers are good folks (I have done business with the local now JD dealer that used to be NH and Cub for 30+ years!) they poopah the Korean tractors, instead of taking a look at what their competition is doing, I should know, I have worked for Hyundai for 24 years as the sales rep and have watched them being put down by the Asian manuf for a long time, now they are watching over their shoulders because the Hyundai quality is just as good as theirs and the warranty is better! I was impressed by the 4040's frame, axles and big tires, the 3037 is close in some specs, I think has more power because of the turbo and less weight, and the 66 inch bucket fit my needs better (the 72 inch on the 4040 is there because the tire width is 69 inches), if I was going to do a lot of loader work, or field work, I would go with the 4046 and may some day as an addition at our small farm to replace the old Ford 3000 ( that just keeps on working with less than 2000 hours). As I have stated in previous posts, the 3037 is almost identical to the JD 3520 in specs and for my small home acreage is great ( wish it had bigger front tires/wheels) and the LS dealer in Penrose is a great guy to deal with!!

Congrats on the new LS! I've had my R3039H for almost 2 years, and still can't wait to get on it each weekend. BTW, I'm a Hyundai sales mgr, SC Region ( Jon Baumgardner's territory).

LS questions to all. Are the XRHC all the same tractor, same frame & transmission, just different hp? Does the hydrostat have a hi/low to split the 3 speeds? In one of the posts above there was mention of windows opening. Whitch ones? Thanks, lt190b

RWork: small world! I was in the newly formed SC region for 2 years then they moved my district back to the West! I really wanted the bigger framed 4000 series with a cab, but find that the 3037 series with a cab is great, that extra weight makes the 40 hp seem a little underpowered at my altitude and the dealer told me that I might feel that way, so he offered me the swap out, the height of the 4000 barely fit thru my barn doors, but, if he would have had the 4046 I would have gone that route, and I still might do some trading for one with him, the 3037 is a great machine, I wish the front wheels/tires were a little taller, but the turbo is great at 6300 feet and it will be with me a long time, the cab with our winter weather has been just super since Friday, who would thought you can move snow without your coat with temps in the 'teens!!!

/ LS Dealers #60
lt190b: there are two frame sizes in the XR cab series, medium with 36.5 hp, shuttle shift or hydro and then in the larger frame, a 40 hp and a 46 hp, both have either shuttle shift or hydro trans. The hydros all have 3 ranges, no gear split like the kubota( which I was quoted $12k more for than the LS!). Granted the JD and Kubotas are fine tractors with a lot of extra creature stuff than the LS, but they charge a lot more for the standard features that The LS cab tractors already have like the radio prep pkg, the dual outside mirrors, the dual hydraulic ports in the back, the back and two side windows that open, the telescopic quick link 3 pt, the aux front and rear lights, and 6 ply tires, and a lot longer warranty!
